This is perhaps the finest - most magical - performance of this wondrous work.

It's truly a pity this work hasn't been performed more often than it has - scarcely - as its two movements contain so much that is deeply contemplative, even mournful, yet also much that is joyous and almost frolicsome at times. Like life itself?

i just saw a young soprano in a youtube video with a good orchestra and was so disapointed. actualy i felt really sad. im young, and love music so much, is sad that i probably will never have a chance to listen to a singer who sings and interpretates the music like this singer in this version. If someone here knows a soprano today who sings like this, please, let me know! i will feel very happy and listen gladly

Glad to see in the comments that I am not the only one who thinks Glière was a truly great composer, next to having been Prokofiev’s first important teacher.

Just listening last evening to the Giliere massive Symphony #3, I was reminded of this more intimate and subtle work, which I hadn't heard since my youth. I still find it haunting and poignant. Does anyone know if there is a version in print that is a piano reduction of the score?

There is. Contact me and I'll send you the copy I got online some years back for a recital during which I had to sing it

Sorry to see your note so long after you posted it. Yes, the delicate, heartrending concerto and the grand, majestic, tragic, Wagnerian (with a small dose of Rimsky) sweep of the Ilya Murometz symphony are the work of one composer. Shame on the world for ignoring Gliere as it has. It's the world's loss, surely not his.

Dame Joan Sutherland sings it better on youtube. Better trill, better staccato. She really makes the allegro part magnificent.

Joan has a better voice and a better technique

You're right, if it comes to technique. But for me Erna Berger sings Gliere's concerto better - her voice is a bit warmer which gives this piece a bit nostalgic feeling :)
