I like that you just try and help them without finding it necessary to start swearing or being rude and negative to get your point across. And you encourage them to keep drawing instead of saying you're never going to be good like some people have told me. There are lots of tips we can all get here even if it is not our specific work being critiqued too, hope other people realize this. Thanks.

I've always wondered how anyone can possibly claim to be able to tell what the maximum level of someone's future abilities will be. Like, how far back does it go? Could I show one of these guys my two-year-old's first go with a crayon and have them tell me whether she'll one day make it as an artist or not? It's just bollocks. Even if someone is objectively terrible now, you can't tell where that person will be in a few years with the right training. Anyway, thank goodness for Reiq and others like him who build developing artists up rather than tearing them down =)

Thank you for sharing this, Reiq -- please do more! Critique can be hard to come by as a self-taught artist, and it can be super difficult to identify your own mistakes even if you can tell you've made some. Watching you transform these drawings with just a few lines is really encouraging -- I'm going to start looking for all these things in my next round of sketches and try to make some conscious improvements. Thank you!

Tip: If you need an anatomy book but are short on cash, buy an art magazine. They're typically less than $20. Flip through to make sure it has references and explanations. You won't feel super guilty if it's destroyed or misplaced. Fair warning, there will be nudity. So if you're underage, explain to your parents/guardians beforehand. Trust me they won't care if it's for educational purposes. :)
