I love ReStore. My tiny rental house is sorely lacking in closet space. Literally, no coat closet whatsoever. I went to ReStore looking for an armoire but nothing looked great. I decided to go with a big sold oak entertainment cabinet and it’s perfect. Installed a rod in top section to hang jackets and there are shelves below for bins of hats and gloves, etc. The best part, it was $50.

LOL LOVE the birdcage as well, but yeah that would be one spoiled porch bird...lol I just found you recently, addicted to thrifting and rehabbing. To save more on my budget I'm no longer buying, maybe just frames/canvases for my art... but rather just finding things in my neighborhood. I found a grandfather clock (not vintage but old-styled and on sale for still over $600 in/by the dumpster behind my place in like 7 different pieces, repainted and detailed it, bought bolts and batteries, and put it back together, it's (almost) like new! Great channel, love the artwork!

I think a wing chair re-covered in a fabric of your choice would look fabulous in your house - with or without a foot stool - I find them surprisingly comfortable and compact and for an older house the original purpose of the wings - to cut down on draughts - would be great

I used to love, love, love thrifting. But I'm now at the stage where I need to downsize, so I haven't bought much of anything in a while. I laughed when I saw the birdcage in your vid because I used to collect those (and had one very similar). Beware: they are a cobweb magnet! It didn't help that I worked in display at an old department store and was constantly dragging home discontinued mannequins, crystal chandeliers, gilt-framed artwork, plaster busts, bolts of gorgeous fabrics, antique furniture (including an entire set of Louis XV chairs and tables from the Lingerie Department), rugs, statues...you name it! I'm slooowly getting rid of the surplus, (plus decades of clothing I never bothered to downsize). I'm hoping to keep just the things I need for a small downtown condo. Wish me luck.

@@REISSUED I wish I had been more mindful when I was younger, especially about clothes. I tend to get sentimentally attached to clothes, even if I haven't worn something in years. So I have tons of clothes and costume-y type things I've gathered over the years to get rid of. With furniture/design I used to change my "look" every few years. I went through Mid-century Modern in my 20s, when absolutely nobody wanted it. You could pick that stuff up for nothing. Same with Mission Style. No one would touch it, but I love it! I hung on to most of that collection, even though it's not "trending" anymore. My current home is pretty eclectic, just stuff I like that somehow works together.

The algorithm did something *good* for once and recently recommended yo video on kitchen trends. I've been binging your videos (and subscribed, of course!) and just want to say that your videos are so chill and interesting. I love how you marry our style with your historic house in a way that feels modern yet respectful of the houses history because you mix historic, MCM, and modern contemporary and everything in between in such a tasteful way. And on top of it, it's... I'm not sure "whimsical" is the right word? Playful. Yeah, your style is very playful and eclectic, and I love it! You're the first person who's really gotten me on board with seeing modern pieces in a historic space because it doesn't feel like like your forcing modern style into a historic space, you're really mixing it altogether to make something unique. I love it, and I'm loving how chill your videos are! Also, I hope you snagged that Victorian birdcage for a great price before it even went out onto the floor!

Dear Andrew, tricky containers/vessels like this brass (?) vase are/can be cleaned with metal cleaning pellets /beads! You fill/put them in along with soap water, close/shut the opening/mouth with your hand/palm and then shake it properly/thoroughly! Works great! I love that most ReStores are a bit pickier about what kind/quality of donations they take than the average thrift store (nothing with mold, cigarette smoke in upholstery etc). I'm looking for Asian (-inspired) rugs - ideally "real" ones - but I'm a bit dubious about picking up second hand rugs from a thrift store. Getting them cleaned must be way pricey and I'm not keen on a carpet being what the dog dragged in. Thoughts?

I feel like the Atlanta store was so much more pricey than the store 40 mins outside the city. We have the same problem here in Louisville Kentucky. The prices are at least 50% higher in the city than the suburbs and smaller cities 30 to 60 mins out. Unless you are doing a huge haul and like going there to buy a big sticker piece or cabinets, it’s not worth the gas. Same freaking customers so we should get the same price point! No one is making NYC/LA money here! Great video babe❤

@REISSUED

Yes it really depends on the region. The ReStore where I work tends to get more personal, individual donations… so a lot of it can be crap. But we also get super unique, rare items. The ATL ReStore get more brand donations - so they have less crap… but sometimes less unique finds. We definitely turn away items with major damage. Or have to trash them if we can’t sell them.

About that black console table with two openings on top. I would turn the holes into lightboxes. Put an LED light in the compartment and cover the top with semi transparent glass. Could look beautiful when you put a ginger vase and have it lit from the bottom like some fancy art gallery. And it could be useful as a working lightbox to trace a pattern or duplicate drawings. It is small and in an awkward position, but still useable. I love the legs on that.
