Automobilista 2 V1.6 Preview - Improved tire smoke & engine failure effects

Preview of updated smoke effects incoming for AMS2 v1.6 - mechanical failures can now lead to some glorious (and blinding!) clouds of white smoke being produced in case of more catastrophic failures. Tire smoke has also been revamped for a more realistic look.
Bonus preview of updated F-V10 Gen2 external sounds also incoming for V1.6!

Agreed. The engine smoke was a bit much. It should be similar to how the tire smoke looked.

If you compare this to Kimi footage (Spa / Belgium 2002) your smoke is a bit too bright / white and ideally needs toning down a little with maybe a touch more blue also added to simulate the oil burning. The transparency is a little off too by being a fraction too opaque throughout the central part of the smoke and definitely too strong throughout the radius and should have a smoother blend of transparency. Just looks rather fake, but still ok for a WIP.

Still disappear to fast and it's not a constant cloud rather more single clouds put together. Hope we get kind of wake turbulence when cars drive though smoke clouds

with the donut preview , shouldn't the tires gradually start to smoke? this looks like its smokes out instantly. Custom shaders patch for assetto corsa has it pretty nailed.

This game is becoming amazing - I hope they continue to nurture and assist the modding community as this will mean we have a fantastic game with a decade or more of life left in it. Personally, i would love there to be some FWD touring cars to make it complete, but its pretty amazing as it is

@ReizaStudios Please increase the grid sizes across all tracks. It's needed for Multi class racing. 32cars is NOT enough. (60 cars/AI) Should be your target online and offline.

One thing I've noticed with this game is that if you do a burnout with a rear wheel drive car specifically in cockpit view, smoke does not generate and does not appear in rear view mirror. If you do this in a front wheel drive car, than all works fine. If you do a burnout in a rear wheel drive car from 3rd view perspective, smoke is generated and all works fine. I mentioned this to the devs years back and still not fixed. It's minor, but I'd still love too be able to see all that smoke behind me in my mirror in cockpit view with a rear wheel drive car :D

What i like to see in the donut smoke/dust is a more gradual disappearing of it. Now it disappears too sudden, is jumpy, which distracts from the realism. Still great work Reiza. Huge respect for you continously improving AMS2

Quero ver se esse jogo continuará rodando na minha velha GTX950, pois o comprei exatamente porque rodava no meu micro tranqueira. Caso suba os requerimentos, por favor, coloquem a opção do jogador continuar jogando versões mais antigas, mesmo que percamos conteúdo novo por causa disso. O que não pode é fazer como, por exemplo, Euro Truck Simulator 2, que originalmente rodava até em PC da Xuxa (dava até pra rodar o jogo ao contrário e fazer delivery no Inferno) e agora tá dando pau até em PC da NASA. Abração... ficou lindo mesmo!

This is good. But in spirit of realism, the smoke looks like vapor more than smoke. More white than black. Also with car I see no difference between when it'sdoing donuts on track or off it. I imagine off tracl would be more dust than on track. In conclusion, the smoke is very accurate in terms of how it looks and blows, but its colour is quite off

I think its because the failure in the video is simulating a coolant engine failure not an oil leak/blown engine.

It looks cheap. Even in the GrandPrix 4 game, the engine smoke was better. Please improve Ai with the right trajectories. I'm a fan of the golden era of F1. But you're trying to unite too many F1 generations in one game. You can remove three and improve the rest to a new level.

Who cares about looks if the game is a half-product, not having basic stuff fixed. For instance, saved setups getting erased. Fix basic things! Then it will be ok already. I do not need smoke. What does this game want to be? EAF1 arcade or a real sim?
