Yep a lot happened since even this video when things already became improved / fixed a lot. Also there is the WRC24 season expansion with new locations and some new cars. Apart from the way the anti-cheat system became implemented locking out Linux players and the fact that it looks inferior to DR2.0 among others, considering driving experience there is no complaints on my side.

I hope so. I consider EA-WRC a transition game, too. Both EA-Coddies merge and replacing EGO engine. I have much respect for EGO, it worked so well for racing games. Maybe developing it to the newest gen would have been burn more resources than using an updated engine. Unreal 4 has its merits but I think both ACC and EA-WRC feel a step back compared to AC and DiRT Rally 2.0.

I enjoy being able to play both Dirt Rally 2.0 and EA WRC! EA WRC has by far the better FFB and steering feel! Dirt Rally 2.0 has by far better visuals and performance! Both games have strengths and weaknesses, both are very enjoyable and both have really annoying quirks like FFB and physics on tarmac. It’s so bad that I just don’t use the tarmac stages in either of the games. I only play racing sims in VR and I have a high end PC and EA WRC doesn’t look good, but the details coming through my DD2 are a lot more satisfying than DR2.0. It’s a shame both games come with compromises, but overall both games are awesome!

It is a pretty objective / positive view I think. I guess it's always pros / cons and making peace with the actual game. I share your view and try to find the positive sides. Considering tarmac these two are nowhere compared to AC for instance. But overall a hell of a rally driving experience, both of them.

It makes sense and I would not be surprised much if it happened later this year, just like in the case of so many sports games under EA umbrella. I must also add that I tend to imagine that for example an annual FIFA game that is basically asset update with some minor changes is maybe less labour intensive than a proper rally sim. But what do I know, I've never worked on a game title like this or for a massive game dev.

I hadn't played EA WRC since February this year. I just fell out of love with it and became engrossed in Gran Turismo 7 and Assetto Corsa on the PC. I loaded up EA WRC yesterday for the first time, saw there was 9Gb of updates, and then gave it a go. I had so much fun and thoroughly enjoyed it. It feels *improved* in tiny ways everywhere. Still a tiny bit of screen tearing (I'm on PS5) but the feedback felt better, the traction on rear wheel drive cars is slightly improved, and I just felt more comfortable overall. I'm going to get back into the game again. And your video was suggested to me the next day, so my improved experience has aligned with yours. 👍

@@Arth16V It!s nice to hear that. I think the only objective way to judge games is to have both the positive and negative views of it then the customer can decide if positives are worth it or negatives are dealbreakers. Negativity, drama, nagging, toxic reviews are much more aggressive so they are in the forefront. But honestly, during the decades of me being a gamer, so many "ugly ducklings" with catastrophic negative push proved to be great to me. X-COM Apocalypse for instance. Everyone said how terrible it was. Well, I for me it's one of the best turn-based strategies ever with a super flexible flow, you can destroy the complete scenery if you wish. GT Legends, called unplayable because it was ugly AF. Well, one of the best FFB sims back in the days. Or RBR you mentioned! Back in the days every uppity ass hated it as it was hard. What a sim legend have it become? Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3 + Andromeda, Fallout 4 and so on so on forth, a long list of games that accumulated so much hate but in the practice were fine to me. There are also negative personal experiences. Everyone was raving about Star Wars Force Unleashed. Well it was one of the most annoying games I've ever played. Still, not a waste of money as at the end of the day, just like EA-WRC, they costed about the price of a single dinner or a movie ticket, bought on a sale.

Folks still play previously WRC released games to date, sometimes comparing them. As time passed, WRC game licences changed owners (reverse time order): EA SPORTS™ WRC = 2023, created by Codemasters under EA flag WRC Generations = 2022, made by Kylotonn under Nacon flag WRC 5-10 = 2015-2021, also by Kylotonn / Nacon WRC 1-3 = 2010-2012 made by Milestone / Big Ben, Nacon, Square Enix All companies are race game specialists. For the moment Codemasters are eligible to make WRC and F1 games but has a fine pedigree as they ran the complete DiRT series. Milestone has motoGP, MXGP, Ride series and Hot Wheels Unleashed. Kylotonn had WRC and Isle of Man TT for a long time that licences changed owners, now they worked on the recent Test Drive Unlimited.

I saw all the people saying that the game was good now so I bought it a week ago but I ended up really disappointed to be honest. There’s definitely more content than DR2.0 and I can’t deny it but it just feels really low quality - bad graphics, way worse co-driver and I’d say even the stages are pretty boring - just one completely flat and wide road with no real danger like objects on the sides, off-camber corners, ditches etc. I gave it about 5 hours before I got fed up with the co-driver skipping important information and then I went back to DR2.0 which still feels so much better.
@NPlay64
@NPlay64 13 күн бұрын
Interesting point that I can agree. Now that you're saying, at places I could feel that the EA-WRC co-driver wasn't at the top of the game all the time, too. DR2.0 has many mistakes in the pace notes indeed but overall it is much more consistent so you can blindly dive into sections following the instructions 98% of the time. I think they still try to improve EA-WRC and I have no doubt that in time it will become the most popular rally game by the number of players but it has so many fundamental flaws that it won't be the best one. BeamNG beats all of them considering physics and it will include a rally mode in the future. DR series, well, photo-realistic and is an established system, no need introduction. I haven't played all older Kylotonn WRCs but up to 10 they are pretty good IMO. And don't even let me start on RBR-RSF mod that is a complete, hardcore, deep rally experience.
@solfir4137
@solfir4137 11 күн бұрын
@@NPlay64 The best they can do to improve the co-driver IMO would be letting us do our own custom pacenotes, seeing as they are 100% spliced together instead of recorded in one shot like DR2.0. The game can no doubt be good if codies stick to it, but damn I miss the immersion and sense of speed/danger.
@NPlay64
@NPlay64 11 күн бұрын
@@solfir4137 Custom pace notes would be quite a feat for sure. I may be wrong but maybe there is a mod for RBR that does that. Also I may be wrong as I did not work on game audio only game music as a sound guy but I think it's not one-shot as audio clips go, the dynamic way the tech works behind allow that notes are spliced already. I think it is how It can be implemented efficiently. About immersion / speed, let me recommend something that you may enjoy if car sims became a little sleepy for you (as for me, too). I had TT-Isle of Man 1 and 2 for a long time in my library, I just haven't tried it to the depth. Okay, it is crazy, you crash every corner, works weird with a gamepad, whatever. Early last summer, partly because EA-WRC was lacking, I checked other neglected sims in the library like Seb Loev EVO that I enjoyed too. I tried new settings of the bike sim and - blasphemy! - instead of a game pad I could configure it on my sim wheel in TT-IoM2. I just had to set minimal steering angle 140 degrees or so. Well, I slowly started to get on. It has a long learning curve but it gave an incredible sense of speed and immersion at the end of the day. Quite unique experience I think among sims, just out of the sole fact that no other form of racing allows such high speeds around such a raw road track.

Optimization is still non-existent and for me to get a consistent 60 FPS, I have to make the game look like something from 2010 and even then, the texture pop-in and stutters are still there. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU + RX 5600 XT GPU, not the newest hardware out there but it has no problems with newer titles on high settings 1080p like Baldur's Gate 3, Metro Exodus etc. But here comes EA SPORTS WRC with graphics from the 2010s and system requirements of the 2030s. The kernel anti-cheat is just the final nail in the coffin of this pile of garbage, not only did it screw over Linux and Steamdeck users, it reportedly made the game less stable even on Windows machines. I may sound really angry, but really I'm just incredibly sad. I'm sad that the sequel to one of my favorite franchises is just a terrible cash grab. All the examples that you exposed are magnific but the really problem here is: EA Never take in consideration the feeeback of the true gamers, same in FIFA series, F1, etc. Im full pesimist with this game also has UE4 is so problematic. The game is ugly for: 1. Rain (looks like milk and not water) 2. Wipers not working in rain, dont clean the rain. 3. Third person camera, cars don't get dirty of mud, snow like dirt rally 2.0, or other games. For example colin mcrae 1 of psx1 has it. 4. Stages has more details and feels more alive in WRCG for me. 5. Games modes are bad, WRCG has better career mode and also a fantastic co-driver mod 6. In general looks like a PS3 GAME graphically, blurry and awful vegetation. 7. Physics for me is too glue in TARMAC and others. 8. Anticheat always in second process, even you don't play the game. Great list of fav rally games, BTW. Have you tried BeamNG or RBR? I think you would like them. Well, EA was responsible to create and also kill two games, pretty high on my favourites list: Mass Effect and Dead Space, among others. Okay they live on as remakes but for example there is no hope for Dead Space 4, as for now. I hope ME4 won't be fucked up much. I agree, EA is not an enthusiasts's fav choice but on the other hand it is a hardcore business group. Every single of those regardless of the field of activity keep on making decisions that piss off and suppress users. I could cite dosens of examples from audio/video production world, too. It sucks and it will never change, they are profit oriented and not user oriented. That is a core problem of the mechanics of our world in general. If monopolies have much, they will want more, even if it means a soft-robbing of their buyers. Subscription-based business models and microtransactions are all about that, just two examples out of the thousands. There are so many warnings about that this way has no end, from Aldous Huxley's Brave New World to William Gibson's Neuromancer to (as for gaming) CP 2077 or Horizon: Zero Dawn. Oh, and the lovely EA Anticheat... A digital security specialist friend of mine recommended that I don't install it on a computer that has soft confidental data like pre-released albums (I'm a sound engineer/producer), videos, development plans, company/business/personal details. DiRT Rally 2.0 is the best example of a love letter for rallying (borrowed line) and a solid product with its own engine. Now: EA-WRC, Unreal Engine, under EA that has done an ample of unpleasant things from players point of view... I don't know what should I suspect. I just hope that Codemasters won't end up dissolved like Visceral (Dead Space devs) and will be able to develop quality releases like DR, even under EA's wing. Until that, fortunately as you said, we have great sims to race :)

@NPlay64
@NPlay64 4 ай бұрын
Indeed it has. You can see in the video. In certain spots the scenery is displayed step-by-step like Last Ninja from C64. In the GFX department I guess older WRC titles back to 9 and DiRT Rally 2.0 mops up the floor with EA-WRC. What became fixed (for my wheel at least) is the FFB / communication of physics engine between the controller and the wheel. Honestly, it feels fun to drive by now, cars feel great like they should have been around the start. If you want a somewhat detailed rally driving / physics, it seems to deliver. Considering the game itself, for me at least, it's been patched up enough to be an enjoyable rally title. In my opinion good level design is among the merits. Maybe it's just me but stages are great and plentiful. I'm okay with car selection / feel, too. Career mode is better in later WRC titles but it is still fine here. I also enjoy building / developing my own car quite much.

@NPlay64 so I got it and Been playing it for the past 2 days and I have minimal issues it's actually running really well on my PC! 4k ultra no upscaling arround 110 FPS (except shadows, reflections and particals on High) I don't get any stuttering think it happened literally 1 time only thing I do get is a bit of texture pop in and objects popping in and out that is a bit annoying but no way as bad as I thought it would be and not sure if there is any solution other than a game update as opposed to any settings. Love the game actually just wish I could fix the text popping and Assets randomly loading in. 👍

@@makavelisreturn86 Great to hear that mate (y) If you are not involved either in kernel-level cheat protection or GFX issues you're supposed to have a lot of fun. As far as comments and feedback showed to me, this sim is a sort of hit-or-miss: works fine for some guys and have dealbreaker issues for others. I have a pretty modest system (R5-3600 + RX570) and by the latest updates all the stuttering and extreme frame drops gone, I could even turn up the quality a little. Around 6 months ago it was pretty frustrating but a game is as functional as it is and not as it was, right? :)

I am really really torn between both games. I've got too many hours in both. when EaWRC performs well and all my hardware registers with the game, the driving feel in WRC mostly the grip as compared to DR2.0, is so so so much more authentic. I felt dirt rally 2 almost forced lateral / drifting almost too often, regardless of surface when you compare it to EaWRC or Real life modern footage. I LOVE Both games, I just wish EAWRC looked and sounded like DR2.0, and the engine was better suited. ( would love hard core damage to be like RBR ) but now I'm renting and dreaming. loved this video mate. you NAILED IT.

It's just a straight opinion of a DR2.0 fan but I'm glad that you like this video :) The sound, how I could forget. I haven't mentioned in none of the reviews, but how true. It is more visceral in DR2.0 and I think it plays a major part why I love it so much. Also, the overemphasized driftiness. Absolutely true. Maybe it's just me but any time I desire for grip, I drive AC and the like. I drive rally games for a sideways dancing car :D EA-WCR is more realistic but for me, for the danciness DR2.0 is just more fun. I can absolutely understand if someone's thing is realism, those sim fans can enjoy WRC titles more or the wonderful ruthlessness of RBR or BeamNG. Anyway it is just great that we have many options. Maybe some likes one sim, someone else the other sim but we have an ample of great sims around. It's a great time to be a sim racing fan I think. Cheers mate!

Pre order to play on early access, after few months it's taking dust. Graphic engine looks terrible even at max detail (although you can gain some sharpness and detail using Reshade and CAS and Luma sharpen). the tarmac still feels very wrong, with the cars feeling very floaty and not feeling weight transfers. And the cars rotating on a central pivot still in 2024 is a cheap wap to implement cars physics model in a video game. To be honest it was the same model on dirt rally 2, which i loved honesty, but that's a cheap way to recycle old tech and hiding it in a modern graphic engine, which managed to look terrible anyway! Such a disappointment. Force feedback though is good, quite detailed. Preferring AC mods for rally and RBR, those are great.
@NPlay64
@NPlay64 4 ай бұрын
Initial impression must have been shocking during early access, especially having a completely refined DR2.0 on the library. EA-WRX was in a bad shape even when I joined months after the official release. Some essential things became fixed by Q3 2024 but I agree it doesn't look pretty after all. The central pivot rotation is a very interesting and correct remark. Playing Coddie rallies since the late '90s I guess it was always like that way, since CMR. Okay there are more realistic ways considering physics but it has worked for decades for them so maybe keeping one leg in the arcade world to some degree is a tradition decision, I don't know. Have you played BeamNG.drive? I think it has a bloody amazing physics engine. If only it took itself more seriously as a racing sim. I prefer to drive it to both AC/Rally and RBR with the footnote that they are awesome sims indeed.

Personally I'd find hard to recommend one vs the other. The pros of WRC-GEN is the career system that is one of the bests of its kind IMO and for sure it is a beast on tarmac. Still it was pretty unstable on my system so I prefer the more fluent and stable WRC10. As for EA-WRC, the game feels nice and runs stable after all the updates but it has the late-attached anti-cheat system that can make weird things. And yes, tarmac. KT WRCs feel better there. Still, if I compare these rally games to the likes of AC or BeamNG.drive, tarmac behavior of one rally sim vs the other starts to lose it in my humble opinion. Okay these totally lack the framework but the physics... Insane :)
