I love it more when I'm alone so I'm giving this a shot. I just bought my first bike at age 19. I went for a very basic single speed hybrid bike with a steel frame and 700c x35 tyres. I'm really looking forward to this new journey I'm about to begin.

I have rode on several bike trails with a single speed steel frame fat tire bike. Originally I was riding my single speed with a 18T cog and after going thru 21T, 22T, 23T, 24T and eventually ending up and currently riding around on bike trails with a 26T cog. I love the simplicity and low maintenance of the single speed bike. You are definitely an inspiration to me and please keep up the good work.

Very cool idea. Riding around the world on a singlespeed bike makes sense to me. Simplicity and robustness. No bent derailleur hanger or rear derailleur that can get caught in the spokes, etc. At the end of the day, you're not any faster on average with a bike with gears. You will probably manage an average of 20 km/h. The gear ratio is small, so uphill climbs are no problem up to a certain point.
@reizkultur
@reizkultur Жыл бұрын
Yepp, simpliicty was the main reason why I rode the bike. My average was pretty consistent, only NZ was slightly slower, as it was mainly off-road, and Australia was a bit faster, as it is more flat than other countries. Still touring singlespeed, great way to cut the fuss out (:

My gosh. What a beast. I would love to try this but unfortunately I wouldn't know where to begin. Question though: What are the obstacles with showering daily, washing clothes, peeing/pooping, not having your things stolen, etc. Are you staying in hotels or camping out?

My wife and I are touring tuscany for a month and are wondering about your gear ratio? Right now we run it pretty high, 2.53:1 but I have a smaller front chainring to use which brings me to 2:1. What do you think?
@reizkultur

I was riding a 32:18 and that is pretty much my choice for all hilly, mountainous rides. 42/17 has worked well on my cross bike as well.
