Good to see buddy. After having too many problems with the msr Whisperlite clogging on first day of use switching to primus omnifuel which also wouldn't always ignite simply I'm beginning to just use penny stoves and pure denatured alcohol. Saves so much weight. I use a trangia pot stand for the Coke can penny stoves and an array of Robens pans and a trangia frying plate for maybe the occasional egg. Alcohol for lighting stoves is available in a lot of hardware shops. And in camping shops Coleman fuel which burns very sooty and like petrol quite lethally and too quickly. I mean the flames are huge when using Coleman vs a bbq lighter fluid etc. You'll be surprised a penny stove can stay lit for easily 20 minutes per filling. I make 3 of them just in case I want to cook more than one pot at a time..

Wow, this is actually the first video where I see people packing stuff to take care of their bike chain. Taking care of your bike on longer trips is really underestimated. I also carry a rag to clean my bike chain. For lubricant I use simple WD-40. I don't have chain brush with me. I have heard that if you tape two old tooth brushes together you can clean your chain that way. But I usually clean my bike at power wash stations. If that is not possible I take 1 L plastic bottle and I make a small puncture on the cap and spray my chain with it. It usually gets rid of most of the dirt and for smaller bits I just use the rag.
@OmmerSyssel2 жыл бұрын

Really nice. I am still with the traditional touring setup. Adam have you ever wondered how it is going to feel to readjust to normal life if you ever decide stop touring. I just came back from work and I am thinking how much I do not like the rat race life here in uk. People at work are making problems about silly things and I know that there is so much more to life than work money buying house blablabla. In the end we all die and it is important to design our own lives. I have a 5 year old daughter and wife. We did some short touring adventures and we would like to go for a longer trip, but I we are very anxious about jumping out from the rat race and then coming back to it again just to start everything from the beginning. We have all we need including skills and equipment, and we could leave tomorrow. The 5 year old can smash 60km in her wehoo. We have been saving for a house so there is money maybe for a 1.5 years touring, but then if we spend it all, we would come back to nothing one day. Problem is that we feel trapped in some sort of system that is sucking our lives out. So so soul destroying. It feels that bicycle is the only escape....
@AdamHugill5 жыл бұрын
It's a tough decision to make to decide to live a life like the one I am living. We can become trapped by societal pressures and the cycle is difficult to break. It took me 5 years from coming up with the idea to travel the world by bike to actually doing it. I left a secure job, sold everything and I eventually broke up with my wife. I have no intention of ever returning to what most people would consider being "normal life". Even before I started this journey, my life wasn't "normal". Normal for me meant living in Cyprus, travelling overseas on military deployments and exercises all over the world and working with some of the most talented and loyal people you could imagine. I wouldn't say to anyone that they should do what I am doing. It's absolutely not for everyone. I asked myself could I live with the regret of not doing it and ultimately the answer was no. Having a daughter and a partner makes your decision different to mine but there is a way to live a life with more adventure without feeling trapped by the rat race.

Thank you for sharing, this is one solid video! Two tips from my side, changing pedals to the model that takes hex key (or ideally hex key and pedal wrench) would eliminate the need for pedal wrench. Another one, I recommend chain lubes based on wax (like White Lightning), IMHO they are superior to traditional lubes, because they get dirty after much longer period of time, they don't bring almost any dirt to other parts (like cassette and jockey wheels). This could save you some weight on chain cleaning tools. And since I have the same or similar Lezyne multitool -- what makes you say it is rubbish? My only complain is fixed hex keys, but currently only Blackburn makes multitool with detachable hex keys and only in single model. Pity it is not standard nowadays.

Greetings from Yorkshire. Thanks for the video, very enlightening. Forgive me if this has already asked, but why no mudguards?
@AdamHugill4 жыл бұрын
I originally had mudguards, they ended up becoming bent and would rub on my tyre which would annoy me. Also, when ridding over thick dirt conditions like in Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia at times, the mudguards would become clogged with clay like dirt.

I wondered how you powered camera, drone, phone, etc. Seems like lots of power banks, recharged when you get the chance presumably? Power from a hub dynamo seems to take a lot of draw, solar panels not enough juice.

I can last about 8 days without needed to stop and charge. If it runs out of charge, it’s not that big a problem. I just enjoy having no charge for a few days until I get the chance to stop and charge.

Your organising is giving me anxiety. You have your itchen across 3 different bags, same with wet weather clothes etc... I'm sure it works for you but I'd be looking for my damn glove all the damn time.

😆 There’s definitely been moments where that bloody glove has gone missing.
It's all done to balance the weight I think. All the kitchen on one side and all the waterproofs on the other would make the weight distribution terrible. The incredibly scattered tool kit did make my brain hurt though.
