This might ruin the illusion of television for you, but I believe they get a chunk of the questions beforehand. Frankie Boyle once did a podcast where he was trying out jokes in front of a small audience before going on the show. He even went as far as having two versions of the same joke and asking which was better.

For me, I feel like I’d be able to make up something funny on the spot, but the delivery would ruin the joke entirely. If you have a week of preparation for jokes, always work on delivery. A knock knock joke can be hilarious if delivered correctly.

Castle Bravo Oh, I didn’t by any means try to imply that I’m funny or have the ability to make a good joke on the spot, or anything related. The reality would be me having made about 2 joke in a time span of 30 minutes and the chances of me being able to cause any kind of uproar would be thinner than a piece of paper.
