With step 1 bring pass/fail in 2022, what do you suggest applicants do to make themselves stand out? Since we won’t have NBME scores?

You will still have NBME scores from your shelf exams on your 3rd year rotations and Step 2 is predicted to be the exam that many schools may focus more heavily on.

How do interviews work since you’re still in school and doing rotations. Do they allow fourth years to interview whenever?

Some rotations have a certain amount of off days that’s you can use for your interviews.

I’m an MS1, could you both please speak on what you did throughout the first few years of medical school to be competitive for residency programs outside of academic excellence? I’m in interview season too! I have more scheduled than I’d be able to handle. This is a WEIRD year but I’m just focused on being grateful for the pros of this all. I was really like - why reject me... I’m sorry... I think God opens the door for us but I do know we can definitely just hit folks up. I’m in denial about stuff too though often & react similarly... Applying to that speciality is rough! I couldn’t imagine mine being all in one day!
