Enel proclaiming there's "6 people there" when his prophecy said it would be 5, and asking them to get rid of one person, only for them collectively to go "Ok Enel, then that person will be you" is an underrated hype moment. Such an epic scene.

Just wanted to mention that 85-90% of lightning strike victims survive (literally just googled this). And factoring in that our crew as well as a good chunk of the cast is superhuman, they should be able to take a few hits.

the fights are basically a by-product of the shonen genre. when you ask the audience members 17 and younger they often say the fights are the best part of onepiece because young boys just like cool moves, hitting someone through a mountain. shit like that. my cousin is that way. he loves the fights the most. he is 16. he just likes it when they hit each other xD

You like D&D so when a person is dead just think that they are down and they need to make death saving throws. As in D&D most people will succed those savings but when they don't that's where the show will be devastating.

You got a murderous spirit bro, every episode it's why isn't he dead. This has been happening since Zoro gets stabbed by Buggy. The cartoon characters are resilient, we've seen them survive death multiple times, whats hilarious is how every time you're surprised still. Oda somehow convincing you that someone is deathly injured is a gag in an of itself. 😂

So, its ok to tell u now, in the manga u actually get a chart, but here: There are 3 "types" of devil fruits. Paramecia, Zoan, Logia Zoan is the most basic: You have the ability to turn into an animal or a hybrid of yourself and an animal. So like, Chopper (Human), Dalton(Ox),and Pell(Falcon). Logia is elemental, the user is treated as an element and can control said element. They are LITERALLY the element AND human at the same time, do not consider them not human, and do not consider them not their element. Smoker, Ace, enel Paramecia the "other" class, if they dont fit in the above, its here.

Pretty much on the money. the only thing I'd emphasize is Logia allows the user to BECOME/MANIFEST their body as the element. Not just adopt properties of it, or expel the power. But physically become it. While Paramecia allows for more variety in power, the user is limited to expelling the power from their body and cannot change the structure of their own body. With VERY FEW exceptions to that rule.

Enel is crazy absolutely but he's also personified as a very intelligent person, which I appreciate about him. He's also quite "principled" in his actions in his own weird way. How he doesn't discriminate based on gender, also that he said he will spare the last 5 survivors, and then offers them all a ride on his ark. Idk it's a hard point to illustrate but basically I'm trying to say that I really like Enel's characterization. He's such a unique character in the way he talks, acts, thinks and behaves.

Why do you take the "if you use that again you'll die" as if it came from a reliable omniscient narrator? For example, if Ussop tells Zoro "hey if you do X again you're going to die" would you take that at face value and expect Zoro to actually die or just assume that it's a way to showcase Ussopp being cowardly or underestimating Zoro?

I dunno, I guess I always saw the fighting as more of visual spectacle rather than having those life-or-death stakes. The world building, the characters, that's like 99% of the appeal to me. When there are life-or-death stakes, it is usually outside of the fights. Like Luffy beating the snot out of Crocodile and the real stakes are the antidote, or how Nami getting sick because those boneheads didn't have a doctor on board and would have died if they hadn't found one. I guess I also watched this whole thing the first time when I was a lot younger and long since accepted that it's exceedingly rare that anyone dies in OP in the present. In flashbacks, though...

I personally love Skypeia…but it’s definitely where OPs flaws are the loudest. A lot of the complaints (drawn out fights, lack of consequence, sidelining Luffy in ridicule ways) are on full display in the second half of the arc. It does get a lot better from here on out. Even when they do these tropes the writing is a lot smoother and not as noticeable. I think Oda’s writing was in a bit of an intermediate stage where he had all the ideas for an epic arc plot, but left just a few too many plot holes to be great, but he definitely got it on track in time for Water 7/Ennies Lobby

Nerdy, think of it this way. Someone else has made a D&D comparison and I DM myself so I'll add into that. In a TTRPG, depending on your group, you run fights for all sorts of reasons. Maybe sometimes it's to introduce a story element, or maybe add some tension. But most of the time, you don't really set your PCs up to fail. When a fight gets tough, DMs will often find ways to save their party so that it's not a TPK. (Not all DMs but in general, it sucks seeing your IRL friends get distressed over character death so it's understandable) But what is consistent is that often times, we throw in combat because it's just fun. Maybe sometimes it's to give us another week to figure out plot stuff so we delay this week's chapter/episode by giving the characters something to do. This very much is similar to how it is for shonen manga. It's a weekly release and manga authors often have to employ delaying tactics that are at least fun enough to still keep reading. Oda, at the very least, keeps the fights interesting and varied. There's very few fights in One Piece I'd call boring. Certainly not as tactical or elaborate as Naruto or HxH fights, but it's more than good enough to serve the overall narrative. This is very much baked into the genre and the format already. However, the fights do change over time. Long drawn out fights are definitely more common in older One Piece. And you're still technically in around the early 2000s era. Once you catch up to later arcs, you'll find that a lot more fights are off-screened - for better or worse.

You're wrong about the Reject Dial and what was said about it. This is the problem of taking everything that the characters tell as if it was the narrator saying it. So you think is a law of the world. To be sure, many writers, write their works like that(that is actually bad part of their writing). Even though what the character is saying, obviously he doesn't have any way of "knowing" what he is saying. Think a little, how would Kamakiri know how many times Wyper can use the Reject Dial, before dying? This is a action that can't be done before, or Wyper would be already dead. Also I don't think that it is something commonly done by other shandians, or people, so you could have an actual comparable sample to take actual conclusion about this. So basically knowing that the thing can kill its user, and understanding how an impact damages a user, and knowing that the Reject is like 10-100 times stronger, he make a simple "estimate" about how many times Wyper could do it(In fact Kamakiri was already alarmed that, the first usage could already killed Wyper) About what we really were told about the reject dial was, that it was a rarer dial, that was a more powerful version of the impact dial(I believe it was said that it was 10 times stronger?) and that the damage to the user was bigger and was known to have killed him. That is the actual basic and correct information we have about the Reject Dial. Not a magic number count.
@Yutani_Crayven
@Yutani_Crayven 2 ай бұрын
That's true but it also isn't. Knowledge can be passed down from one person to another, starting by observers. Examples of this would be how lethal the poison or venom of a plant or an animal is. You don't need to consume each one yourself to verify. It's "reliable enough". Now, granted, physical trauma like reject would depend on the strength and posture of the user's body as well, so there is some leeway. But generally speaking (if we ignore that this is a fantasy setting), there is a limit to human physiology. You're right that there is a difference between a subjective (character) and objective (narrator) observer telling something.

I agree that sometimes nerdy can be obnoxious in the way he sees the characters as humans, but in this matter i would have to say he's right. From a narrative standpoint, theres no sense to build up the reject dial as something so deadly if the ONLY character in the whole show that uses it, uses it 10 times and hes just fine. And i'm not saying he shouldve died, but at least lost an arm, you know at least he would be sacrificing SOMETHING
@bigivel

@@nonamehero5570 he doesnt use it at all close to 10 times. The narrative was only the fact that the damage that it does is way bigger than an impact, and that is dangerous, that was shown in all of is uses. Again, the only thong that was said narratively, was that it did 10 times mor damage than the impact, and was rarely used, becaus it was rare, but also because it could kill the user. Than kamakiri said for him not to use the reject, because it could kill him.
@bigivel
@bigivel 2 ай бұрын
@@Yutani_Crayven the problem is that it was said that the reject was rarely used, so rarely observed. And that is confirmed by the vague notion about its damage. I guess at this point I have a sort of explanation why Luffy is treated the way he is: The timeline in One Piece is really really weird. Until now only a few weeks have passed for the straw hats. So if Luffy had a hard time everytime they punch their way to the end boss, then the strength of his opponents either stagnate or he has to become incredibly strong in a stupid short amount of time (which I mean it is a shonen so this is totally gonna happen). Oda's way of handling this is that he takes Luffy out in the early arcs to throw him right at the final punch fighting. as a child I genuinly didn't notice that pattern. Luffy for me was the main character who was the funny gag side plot most of the time, until it was time for the big bad punch fight. If he hits a brick wall too early in the story it is hard to explain how he can reasonable compete with what is yet to come (not spoiling anything just generic shonen knowledge), so you either have to implement training arcs like in naruto or demon slayer, or you delay the brick wall until the later arcs and find an excuse why MC-kun cannot solve all the problems.

The fighting is a product of being part of Shonen series. Most shonen fighting shows (and manga) are following in the footsteps of either Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, or Fist of the North Star (all of which took elements from Professional Wrestling and applied them to martial arts fights and/or drama, technically with superpowers, or the equivalent of superpowers; DB/DBZ leans harder on the professional wrestling conventions, so there's usually much less dying in shows who take the Dragon Ball route, while FoTNS leans more on drama conventions, so if it's dramatically appropriate, people are more likely to die). Also, this is around the point in the arc when the anime stretches things out, so there's more filler intermingled with what's from the manga.

Luffy has been taken out of the fights before the end in basically every arc. Against Captain Kuro - he was lost first, and then fell asleep. Against Arlong - was stuck in the sea. Against Mr. 3 - he was stuck under a rock. Against Crocodile - he was half dead in the desert. Now against Enel he was stuck inside a snake. The narrative tries to find excuses why Luffy isn't beating the big bad right away, because usually that is when the fighting ends. Unfortunately it sometimes feels too artificial. With Crocodile it worked, imo, but now with the snake it's a bit too random for my taste.

Eneru dead :D But the thing with the reject dial is that a "normal" human being would die after use it 2 times if it is fully charged ^^' And you really shouldn't think about the taken damage in this show so lightly ^^' . Everything in One Piece has a sense my friend ^^

Aisa doesn't know the concept of devil fruits. That's why she's so shocked and confused, even after Luffy explains it. xD

Nevermind how many episodes it takes for Luffy to get out of the snake. In terms of original air dates it took 112 days from the episode he was swallowed to the episode he gets out. Imagine that drag. Also I super agree about the show stating its stakes and then goes back on them hard. It's something shonen manga/anime did/does a lot, but that's still no excuse.

There is definitely an issue with how Oda handles Enel’s abilities in this arc, specifically with him “offing” characters from the narrative only to bring them back. I think it only hurts the story when it is dragged out and keeps happening over and over. This bigger issue in the anime versus the manga because the anime is only adapting it and interpreting it in its own way. It will also emphasize different moments and tone it down more gruesome moments. For instance Oda uses harsher types of hatching for body damage and clearer body language. At this point in the Anime/Manga there doesn’t seem to be a clear or distinct direction for demographic. As a shonen this should be for boys, about fighting, and everything should be edgy. But at this point we’re in a skyland, discussing migration and religion. This type of story wasn’t typical at the time this was made. It almost seems like an experiment to capitalize on the more adult themes from Alabasta. We see Oda trying to still include elements from the shonen genre, adding meaningless fights and reviving every character, but I do think Oda did learn a lot from this arc in how he handles all this stuff moving forward.

Zoro reminds me of a guy from my neighborhood when I was younger. He was so strong that when he got into a bad car accident his grip and arm strength were such that his steering wheel bent like a taco because he held on and kept his arms and chest tight.

But yea one of my big complaints about this series is they feel like they need to tell us there are limitations and dire consequences for actions just to try and make it seem like our characters are immortal, all powerful gods.... And yet thats all just words what we actually see on screen doesnt match the writing.

The info on the dials isnt that accurate. It doesn't take into account how strong the person is. Also stop with the Zoro comments the characters aren't normal they can take hits and fall from heights normal people can't

This is still verymuch a show geared towards 10-15 yr olds. While oda is vocal about writing to include everyone. Ya gotta stop expecting GoTs level consequences. Appreciate the punchfight and deep dive for the narrative notes/emotional payoff. But you will not see consequences of any substantial nature for a few Arcs/settings. You'll appreciate the show more and your time with it if you STOP looking for character deaths every 3 seconds. Let the show cook, it'll be obvious when you can start looking for the more mature notes. in the meantime you'll only be miserable if you expect character deaths, or maiming after every little conflict.

To clarify the show's strength right now comes from the humor and character development. We're establishing setting and getting comfortable with the strawhats. The only stakes for the series are isolated to each location. That will change, but we're not there yet and won't be for some time. Remember, we're nearing episode 1100, you still haven't even hit 200. Be patient young padiwan.

I get it about the fights in some but I also thing is the pace, what toei animation use to do or still. Also just to remind you if you are watching one piece or one pace, maybe you will like more watching one pace.

so theres this channel that posts skits and they keep complaining that "youtube keeps taking down out videos!!" lol.... no they keep saying your 1 minute jokes arent ad friendly so its kinda making their channel look bad so they keep taking them down and making them patreon only.... well maybe when your channel is based off 1-2 minute comedy sketches censor yourself? or stop posting stuff you know youtube wont approve of? idk..at times they will post a 30second short and at the end is a 30 second ad for their patreon which has inappropriate words in it.. like bruh.... learn how to skirt around the youtube rules
