The Brewers didn't underachieve with Counsel. They will win the same number of games this year as last. They will also exit early from the Playoffs (they have no starting pitching). The difference between the two teams was the bullpen. Counsel struggled with a bad bullpen. He never had a bad bullpen in Milwaukee (KRod, Hader, Williams, etal). These days all a manager really does is manage the bullpen. I'm not a fan of Counsel but no manager could have done better.

The Cubs have a serious issue playing at home. It should be a home field advantage, but somehow it's not. Research should be done to help understand why this trend has continued throughout the season. In my opinion, once the weather warmed up in the city, the Cubs began to play horribly at home😢

Still a couple dummies in the comments excusing Counsell but most of you have finally realized that the Brewers underperformed every year under Counsell and the Cubs got BAMBOOZLED into taking him off if the Brewers hands. Stern was his only champion and when Stern left for the Mets the rest of the organization was trying to figure out how to get rid of Counsell without creating a huge PR nightmare for the average Brewer fan that also thought Counsell was good for some reason. Brewers didn’t want him back at his old salary, let alone with a raise, but Cubs fixed that for the Brewers! Cubs fans have a little more excuse than Brewers fans for not knowing how awful Counsell is because they didn’t see as many games he managed as Brewers fans did. Ross kept guys in who weren't performing. Counsell sits them. EXCEPT with certain pitchers and Wisdom. Crucial late season game and he should have pulled Hodge when he lost all control and walked a batter. I saw it coming. And then to put in Smyly with I think a 1-run lead? That was criminal. Cubs get locked into long-term contracts on players who aren't that good. Then the AAA players are blocked by these underperforming players. Teams like the Brewers avoid those huge contracts which allows them to more easily call up minor leaguers and send them back down in they don't perform. Then they call up a different player and see how he works out. There is little movement on the Cubs between the minors and majors because of those bad contracts. IMO
