One could make the same argument about electric start. It is ridiculous. You see, the argument against Rekluse is that you should rely on your clutch skills. That same argument can apply to electric start. You wouldn't need electric start if you had skills and didn't stall your bike. See how easy that is?

Well, being 55 with 14 knee surgeries, 2 shoulder rebuilds, 2 biceps detachments, and a myriad of broken bones, I installed and LOVE the recluse-FOR MX(only thing I ride)- because once my left hand arthritis(broken bones and joint interventions-surgeries- tend to bring on arthritis in massive form) slowed my clutch pull when brake-tapping over a jump so I ended up tapping the brake before I got the clutch in enough, and I stalled in mid-air. Luckily I didn't go OTB, but that got me looking into the CX clutch I found that Dylan Ferrandis had Star install one for him for an Anaheim SX mud race a few years back, and he liked it so much he used it the rest of the season. That's what convinced me the CX would be good for MX. I've had people tell me they don't like the motor free-wheeling like a 2 stroke when trying to while braking down-hill over braking bumps(Glen Helen for example), but I've personally never had a problem. It's all in how you set up your CX when you install it. For me, the best usage is to use the clutch normally, and simply use the Recluse for things like brake sliding and brake tapping. Since I installed it on my 450SXF, I installed it on my 350SXF, and have one on order for a 300SX I just got, and will continue to use 'em on every bike I own I personally couldn't give a shit what anybody's opinion is of 'em. As they say, 'opinions are like assh#les..everybody's got 'em. All I know is I wanna continue riding MX for as long as I can, and will do whatever it takes to allow me to do this

I've got one bike with and one bike without. I personally feel that I've got much better control with the regular manual clutch, especially in the very slow going tight stuff here in the SE, but the auto clutch is fantastic when your clutch hand is too exhausted to pull the lever any more and extends the ride time before you have to stop for the day. Especially for us guys who don't get to ride as much as we like (clutch hand out of shape).
@Bimmere2 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree… however, if your riding harder more technical trails on a 350 or 450 4t, they tend to flame out a lot and only would get the rekluse basically to stop the flame out from happening, but I would use it like a normal clutch, just having the rekluse there as a flameout deterrent!

0:59 "do you pee sitting down?" I want to try those torq drive disks though. I can buy just the disks without the auto clutch. I have driven manuals my whole life and I am way smoother on a dirt bike than a dry automotive clutch using my foot. I can hold a car on an incline by bumping the clutch in a car, but there is so much more that I can learn and do on a dirt bike clutch. The clutch is the hinge pin for a lot of skills and differing bike setups.
@Anatoli5017 күн бұрын
Here’s the deal: the Rekluse autoclutch is an amazing device that makes riding a dirt bike easier. There is less to think about or manipulate as part of the riding process. It is especially good with big bore 4T singles that tend to stall in the gnar, like a CRF450. The new units are durable: I get 400 hours out of a clutch pack on my 500 XCF-W in hard enduro service. They are expensive. They pair nicely with a Left Hand Rear Brake. What they won’t do is get you to the top 25% of skills possible with a manual hydraulic clutch. These are primarily Hard Enduro type skills. If you ride mostly open terrain the autoclutch is great. I have considerable more control in the gnar with my manual clutch 300. Horses for courses.

In my very humble opinion, everyone should own a peaky, narrow power band 125 MX dirt bike at least once in their life. My 1982 Honda CR 125 gave me a master class on having to learn how to use a clutch properly. Especially when using it in the woods. Agree everyone needs to learn manual clutch skills. That being said, I love Rekluses. The one caveat, they must be adjusted correctly. I've ridden bikes with rekluses that weren't adjusted correctly, and they sucked. Just like a improperly installed Tubliss system, it comes down to operator error. Yes I love Tubliss too. 😄

There is only one situation where I have ridden a bike with an auto recluse and thought, "Huh, that's actually maybe a good application." A buddy has an enduro he rides long highway on, but still wants to be able to pick through slow technical stuff occasionally. The bike gearbox is not wide ratio enough to allow reasonable cruising RPM in 6th but also slow enough speeds in first. He has an auto recluse on it, and it allows him to pick through technical stuff without the fatigue of being on the clutch the whole way through while still geared final drive for more street stuff. It's not for me, and I don't really like them, but I do understand the appeal of that application I guess.

Love mine on my KTM 300. I have even gone so far as to use the clutch master cylinder to actuate the rear brake. I have completely removed my rear brake pedal and master. KTM makes a brake line specifically for this application. Now it doesn't matter if I have to put my foot down in a right turn. The rear brake is controlled by my left hand, I have tried the OX LHRB- it was OK and the Rekluse LHRB- it was a POS. Now I have excellent brake feel and can lock up rear wheel with little lever pressure.

I put a rekluse on my wife's bike after she was struggling to even get going as she had barely ever driven a manual car and never had used a clutch on a motorcycle it was a simple choice. Either pay $700 for the rekluse or sell her bike and lose money on the bike and all the gear I had already paid for. I know if I didn't she would give up and end up hating it before she even got the chance to get going. On the flip side after I bought she still said wanted to learn how to use the clutch properly but that she felt defeated she couldn't even get going. Which she has learned now so to me it was the best investment I could have made for her bike. Most women don't have the passion or patience men do when it comes to motocross.

I think a rekluse is a crutch. I used one when I had a bad wrist injury. I could do hard enduro style terrain with ease until I was hurt. I could still ride but I couldn’t control the clutch after half hour for a few years. But I insist that people master a manual clutch and all controls first and foremost as you do. They are excellent for keeping older people on two wheels or helping those with injuries.

They don’t suck. There’s professional riders that love them. For example, you crash in a race. Bike stays on. Pick it up. Rip the throttle and go. Don’t gotta kick it back on. Also, I enjoy off road riding on an electric bike. I like being sold to brake with my hand instead of foot when there’s ruts and I can’t fit my feet on the pegs. They act like a traditional clutch when you need it. But have the benefit of not stalling. I broke my foot and kick starting often bothers it. It’s ok if you don’t like them. But to they suck is idiotic. It’s an innovation that helps new and seasoned riders. My biggest complaint with dirt bikes, is that nothing really major has changed. The auto clutch and electric bikes are the innovations I’ve come to enjoy. You can say you dislike chamfer and want to stay traditional, that’s fine.

I grew up using a clutch on a huge four stroke and you could not let it stall on the hills or in thick tight sand washes (because you would have to kick start it in a real bad place and they did not like to start after being hot). Going forward I'm the only one that can hit huge long drawn hills on a 450 and not let it flame out. If I grew up on a recluse, I wouldn't have the advanced ability I have. As Morgan's point, make sure you learn on a regular clutch and you will see that you don't need a recluse.

The one area that bothered me was engine braking. you had to keep the engine above idle to keep the clutch engaged for engine braking to work. Deal breaker? No, but definitely a learning curve. The bike came with the stock clutch and a Megura Clutch, so I can change out if I want. I will definitely keep riding it unless it frustrates me or puts me in situations I don't like.

I rode dirtbikes for 45 years without a rekluse. Then at about 58 or so my son bought one and tried and tried to get me to get one. I said fk that I. Not a pussy.. long story short.. he bought one and put it on my bike 😳. Since then I've put one on every bike I buy. I don't see a downside. And at 65 years old it helps out when I get really tired towards the end of the ride. That said... If I were young again I would not have one.

That is the perfect time for one. You clearly know how to use a clutch. It’s the people who put one on before they learn that skill that I have a problem with.
I feel attacked, first a Four Strokes suck video then this. Where’s my safe space lol. I put a rekluse in my YZ450F last year, I missed being able to slip the clutch and having engine braking on steeps and landed up taking it out after a couple rides. It felt fast during starts but slower in corners. I didn’t feel like it added that much benefit on hard terrain to keep it.

As a brand new rider (like 4 months and 100 hours and 1600 miles ago) living at 9000ft in the South Fork valley, I love my clutch (okay, it's a hydraulic clutch but still). Maybe the Rekluse would make things better but they're pretty darn good and if a 53 year old who has never sat on a motorcycle until a few months ago is now riding fairly hard enduro stuff, I think I'm fine without one.

Novice perspective I'm just gettin back into it after 35 years of trying to kill myself on a MTB. I see the Rekluse auto, haven't tried it, and it looks cool and all, but I want to at least re-learn on a hard clutch. I always like the power and control of snapin it on, you know. (I'd probably be more inclined to a Rekluse front rear brake lever than an auto clutch, but not right away) I also was into stupid fast cars and never liked an automatic, even though burnt clutches were real work to change. I've seen quite a few good used 500ish bikes on the market with Rekluse, so I'd try it. But I'd be ready to put a hard clutch set up on it and probably would. I don't anticipate spending the money on a new Rekluse or "needing" one to ride. Besides, big-bore 4-stoke bikes seem pretty basic in clutch design and mechanics. No need to complicate things from the get go, eh?

I agree that it’s a great part, and built well. If set up correctly it is damn good but it does soften the clutch grab and stiffen the pull (even with the high end CX). All i good fun, my 2 cents... I"ve had Rekluses since 2008. I love'em, ;won't be riding without one. I like it when I get it to nasty up hill rock sections I can have both hands holding on and push throw it and if I bobble the Rekluse helps with a quick recovery. Its great if I get stuck in mud/rut/rocks I can have one hand on the throttle and the other pulling on the back fender (like having a buddy help) and makes it nice to push out of a steep hill situation, just walk it up with the throttle. Otherwise I just use it as a normal clutch, pop the front around, wheelies, logs, taking off and shifting because I did learn without it, but nice to have an extra "helping hand" at times. I liken it to having electric start... "a real dirt biker should be able to kick start there bike anywhere, anytime (rocky hills) and its cheating to use electric start for a start of a race." 🤣🤣 (because I've always had kicks) I just bought my first 300 XC for electric start for all those reasons because I'm 60 now. 😲

I am surprised that you don't like rekluse clutches. The rekluse actually improved the delivery on my 06 CRF450R and the radius X with the torque drive plates on my 15 tc250 was way better than the stock clutch, and it had the feather option. And hey you have a pds old man chassis smoker. The only thing you have to look forward to is a bull rider vest and a diaper! An auto clutch bike is not a primary bike unit but for clowning off road they further your experiences. However on a 125 or 150SX I would run the rekluse torque drive clutch pack or a hinson plate and spring kit.
@highlandcycles Жыл бұрын
Hahahaha. I hope we get to ride together some day. They do not grip like a normal clutch. That is a fact. They work and people like them but I don’t. They don’t snap as hard and when you make a mistake on a big nasty hill, you can’t dump the clutch and have it hold the bike in place while you reposition and get back on you probably don’t know what I’m talking about because you ride around on groomed tracks or smooth single track.
@scottphillips445 Жыл бұрын
@@highlandcycles actually the radius x has both auto and feather ability. If you are going to do the bare minimum then in my 150SX it will be hinson springs. What I don't like about the auto clutch is that it is less reliable due to several issues. 1st the stock ktm clutch is a thing of beauty on your bike that needs nothing. My 450 doesn't need an auto clutch because you shift alot less especially compared to a 125. But it does make it more of an old man bike because e start only , a rekluse, and a clear 3+ Gallon tank screams way over the hill!
