In the past 10-15 years I've become a lot more selective about my music. Back then, I just went for the most brutal and more importantly, the most obscure things I could find. The more my internet forum echochambers proclaimed "this is more brutal!" the more interested I was. Anything on the level of popularity of Nile was quickly abandonend. Lo and behold 15 years later, what stuck around? Nile. I haven't listened to this album in at least a year or two but the riffs are still fresh in my mind. The "brutality" is comparable if not better than whaterver shit Unique Leader band I was into at the time. The opening riff of Sacrifice Unto Sebek is burned into my brain and there it shall stay.

On Myspace, Nile ran a draw to see who would attend the Master Class given by Karl Saunders before the Concert in Cleveland. I was one of the winners, met the band and took the lesson. Then saw the soundcheck with back stage passes. I had made a King Tut themed flying V using Warmoth components, gold leafed with 24kt gold. I had stayed up all night to be ready and then asked Dallas if he wanted to use my King Tut Guitar for soundcheck. He realized I didnt tune the lowest string to D from E and handed it back. I was so close to hearing my guitar play this albums music, but he posed for photos with it after the check. Then we watched this albums concert.

It isn't safe for them to play there. Once you're hooked your hooked, forget about it , game over. I'm 58 and I appreciate almost any genre of music that takes talent to play, sure it sounds like noise to the average listener but anybody that gets it realizes how technical alot of this type of music is .

It's fucking funny when they name a track that is at least ten words long. I'm waiting for the day when one track is an essay on the back of the album.

Bal-Sagoth do it a fair amount; they have an album called "Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule" with song names like "And Lo, When the Imperium Marches Against Gul-Kothoth, Then Dark Sorceries Shall Enshroud the Citadel of the Obsidian Crown" Don't let the long names put you off though, they're excellent and not as edgy as they sound

Love the lyrics department of this album, Cast Down and User-Maat-Re, have really epic lyrics, and contain great storytelling. Great album in general, hail Nile.

17:10 you can pinpoint the moment at which an ancient mummy explodes at the chest, hundreds of feet below the earth in the catacombs of a pyramid, unleashing a whirlwind of scarabs to wipe out all those who ran and hid from sacrificing blood and sweat so the ancient gods may save our world from the horrors of modern man

Busted 2 headphones on his album. For me a band which changed Metal is Death. So for me that is the greatest moment which I thought will be over. Then Nile came and took over. I been listening to Metal since the 80's. So let's see who can take it up a notch. As for now, I don't see anything as good as Death & Nile.

I would say in their darkened shrines has some pretty technical drumming while annihilation of the wicked has very advanced guitar work, not that either isn't proficient at both!

I love this album. This is just so fucking badass. My only issue with Nile is inconsistency. They have great stuff like this, but then miss on other albums. Great band, just wish they were more consistent.

Shout out to Neil Kernon's excellent production on this album. Visceral yet hugely atmospheric. Apparently they didn't even EQ the guitars! Drums really natural as well and not compressed to shit like so much other technical DM. A huge part of that is down to Kollias' technique, of course, but Neil really captured a moment on this album.
