Vicki Robin, a prolific social innovator, writer and speaker, is co-author with the late Joe Dominguez of the international best-seller, Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship With Money and Achieving Financial Independence -- and the upcoming book, Blessing the Hands that Feed Us; What Eating Closer to Home Taught Me About Food, Community and Our Place on Earth (Viking/Penguin 2014) about how her experiment in 10-mile eating not only changed how she ate, but also renewed her hope and rooted her in her community. Vicki has helped launch many sustainability initiatives including: The New Road Map Foundation, The Conversation Cafes, Sustainable Seattle, Transition Whidbey and more. For fun, Vicki is a comedy improv actress, appearing frequently with her troupe, Comedy Island.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Absolutely loved what you shared. Agree wholeheartedly. Except for one little thing. Five years ago, I learned how to regain my family’s health - we started eating Whole Foods and almost completely cut out carbs. Everything improved: gut health, fatty-liver gone, blood pressure issues, energy, teeth health, eye sight… we would never go back to eating the other way. We have progressed to eating local-grown, grass fed meat, poultry and dairy products (we live in a part of Virginia that makes this easy). We also have dropped most fruit (other than berries) and root vegetables. It worries me a little when people talk about the problems of meat. My family’s health depends on it.

Vicki, You are naming one of the most crucial topics of the day and challenging us with humor, information and suggestions that we can put to use in our own lives. First you tackled the world of money and finances and now food and relationships. You are inspiring and practical all at the same time. Many thanks!

Vicki - It was amazing to watch you present - so passionate, clear and instructive and humorous. I am posting you on our transition site but as as transition sister I have to hope that you will find a larger audience - the message is essential and you are the messenger. You go ------ I hope you have sent this to all of our mutual international friends and all the TUS and Transition Network folks. Maybe we'll meet when Rob is here - hope so..............

Very entertaining and witty speaker.. and of course great message. I live in an area thankfully where we have farmers markets and most locals are food savvy but for sure Australia is run by only 2 grocery chains and we have as many obese unhealthy citizens as the States. I love that things really don't have to be the way they are and that thanks to Ted and many other organisations, the message of "Be the Change" is spreading into so many areas of our lives. Thank you Vicki

Fantastic talk, Vicki. Very compelling.Love zookies! Yes, we need to release the hold of industrial ag on our minds. You will love Vandana Shiva's talk at the YES! Town Hall event September 12.

Informative and humorous talk!! Start your gardens this spring (a great way to give the thumbs down to Monsanto!) and consider the ramifications of Peak Oil and the hegemony of industrialized agriculture. Compost your kitchen scraps. Grow Kale, Swiss Chard and mustard greens--very easy. And of course buy local as much as your budget can sustain so the average distance a calorie of food on you plate has traveled is not 1500 miles.

Great talk! I must get those zacker and zookie recipes. There were plenty of contenders, but my favorite quote was changing from a diet to a "live-it". Thanks for the inspiration, Vicki.

Tuff Term as a side note many of us believe the egregious gvt borrowing of spending money will destroy the economy..the cubans will know how to survive the coming bad period..so will the palestinians in the gaza strip ..they grow food on rooftops ...
