I grew up in a large family, and we were taught not to belch or break wind amongst other people. But of curse it did happen a lot and I always hated it. My sister went off to study a few hours away from home. And in that time she just let all these rules of etiquette fly out of the window. I can't count the number of times I told and begged her to show some decency and not be so embarrassing. Even when it was just the two of us. Now that she is married, she does it a lot less. But her husband and she do not mind each other belching and breaking wind. Which feel so very inappropriate. My boyfriend and I, we never ever belched or broke wind in each others company, until I moved in with him. He was a little sick and we were in bed. He apologized and of course I told him it was okay. We then had a long conversation and complimented each other for behaving so nicely without ever discussing it before. We both don't mind bodily functions happening, as long if it's not on purpose. You know, when you're sick, or have been drinking a fizzy drink or something. And we like that we are both so considerate of each other.
