ProfessorDave, someone needs to take your theme song and make it a fast metal/punk theme song or someothether genre and then you should randomly place it at the start of your videos. Just to mix things up. Keep up the good work.

yep! This series is from a US archaeologist, so those terms are used. I worried about the differences between the two schools of thought but since this is just a precursory glance at the field I hoped the differences wouldn't be too severe.

I thought I remember watching a video where you mentioned the website “Consensus AI” and I remember you saying that “no matter what you tell them a large amount of Americans think Covid came from a Chinese lab” and I was shocked to hear you infer that “doctors and scientists agree it was zootropic in origin” but just cause it’s zootropic doesn’t mean it couldn’t come from a lab, right? I mention this because congress reported it was a lab leak.

How do abandoned sites get buried after only a few thousand years under several feet of soil? In hilltop areas or flat fields. Build up, decay and compaction of seasonal organic growth and death?
@robchasing314012 күн бұрын
soil actually builds up pretty quickly in temperate environments, commonly an inch or more per year. Especially in low lying areas where sediment is transported by runoff. A lot of archaeological sites on hilltops are much easier to find that ones in floodplains just because of the depth difference.
@Vick_Lagina17 күн бұрын
Imagine if someone dug up a site from today and found all sorts of weird products 100,00 years in the future. All they’d have to do is look at the manufactured date on the label! Science is easy!😊

Nah, I think that people in that village used stone tools to make ancient batteries, then the aliens came and built the temple. Then there was a layer of sooth from ancient power plant to charge the batteries that were then used to charge spaceships. And finally, the aliens abducted everyone and left.
@iivin423322 күн бұрын
You get self proclaimed machinists under those videos claiming that this or that artifact could not be made without machine tools. Anti-science people hide behind pebbles of real science, and it's remarkably effective shielding. There are Indian channels proposing ancient electrical devices, testing them in dubious experiments. The lies really are making it half way around the world before the truth has gotten its boots on. In my opinion, it's not a laughing matter anymore--though I still laugh at it sometimes.

What about trash? If someone dug a hole to throw trash into, stratigraphy would suggest it's older than it really is, right?

No, because you could see the cut hole edges when digging.
@dogwalker66622 күн бұрын
Watch time team!
@postholer22 күн бұрын
Good question ^^ but if someone at some point dug a hole, they did it starting from the layer they were standing on. Later layers will be on top of the opening. And technically we not only count fillings as one layer but the interface as well, since the filling must be younger than the hole itself. If you want the really fancy details: the common documentation technique "Harris Matrix" can help understanding it ^^
@satch50013 күн бұрын
When excavating a trained eye can see the difference between a cut layer and fill layer. If someone dug a hole through older contexts, you can see the edges of the hole and you would record that in your drawings and harris matrix.
