The community was destroyed by an angry racist mob, and now this history is the subject of two films.

Sadly not much has changed as far as racism goes This was truly sad for all

That's not true......lots have changed. I'm in my 50's and have seen lots change over my life. White people have chilled the hell out and you don't hear racist remarks or deeds hardly anywhere now compared to the old days -- even far out into the countryside. Rednecks are much more accepting now. Also, as an aside, show me one country who's made as good or better progress with racism than the United States. So much has changed in the last 60 years .

And almost 700 people partying on Lake Lanier have drowned, and some bodies have never been found. Reports of hauntings are frequent!

I had a great uncle who lived in Oscarville as a boy he was always known to us, when we were kids, as Black Jackie. He said never swim in the lake.

Im here after hearing about the man electrocuted to death, and people said : if you knew the history behind that lake you wouldnt swim there .
@lanier1000 Жыл бұрын
It's the most used/most popular lake in the country outside Great Lakes, so of course you'll have death and drownings -- no big deal -- it's just collateral damage statistics. .
@moebyrd17711 ай бұрын
I’m curious if you or any of your loved ones died in that lake would you see it as no big deal and are others free to describe it that way? I understand statistics of people drowning in large bodies of water if there’s lots of people going there but I don’t understand why you would describe people drowning and dying as no big deal.

Everyone wants to go there and go swimming and do tiktoks knowing the history of the lake. They deserve what they get tbh. Those are watery graves, not our playground. Rip to all the citizens of Oscarville, please know your history isn’t forgotten among so many and you have our respect ❤

Every lake has a body count. This one's just higher than normal and tragic. Should we not swim in any body of water then? The issue with the lake is that the people who built it only cut the trees half way, so when the water is low there's a tree maybe 6 inches under the surface and you hit that in a boat or jet ski and you're in trouble.

"A thriving black community of farmers, carpenters, and black smiths" Man, how i wish that was the case in 2023... need more trades in black communities, i garuntee their schools dont offer any vocational education. Like heres a lathe and mill, heres some steel, make a sheet metal hammer, we'll send it to heat treat and next week you'll install that hammer to a handle and then youre gonna use it to flatten out the dents in the automotive shop class' car door. And you get to keep that tool for the rest of your life.
