I have this watch with the classic black dial and an aftermarket Jubilee bracelet from Island Watch, it's great. Also, I think another reason this has sapphire, is that they saved some money by having a quartz movement. I like it. I used to own one. I forget the reference number but it's the one with the radiant dark gray dial with like a ghosted bezel. I think the watch also wears a tad larger than the 38 mm may suggest. Something about the broadness of the lugs to me seems to make it wear just a tiny bit larger visually. And yeah, it's weird how Seiko will give us sapphire crystal on the lower entry level lines and then skip up to the very high end ones that cost a lot more. Rarely anything in the middle and more commonly bought perhaps?.

I’ve owned the blue for a couple years now. It’s my go to summer knock about. Light, thin, grab and go, classic looks. Dumped the bracelet though. Looks great on blue rubber strap. Also note that the bezel has interesting circular grooving, as well as etched numbers reminiscent of ceramic.

@@RelativeTime Unfortunately, 95% of Seiko’s solar watches have either a timing bezel, multiple pushers, multiple sub-dials or generally unrefined design. Often it’s a melange of all of those elements. The Chronomaster, on the other hand, is a masterpiece of refined design and technology. I look at it as sort of a solar powered SARB 033/35. Citizen is leading the way in solar powered watches. They have plenty of the obnoxious looking ones, like Seiko, but they also offer the Chronomaster (The Citizen) and the more affordable Tsuyosa and Forza models. Not solar, but I know there is a quartz that is "2Hz" ticker (4 ticks/second). A $20 goof watch I bought had one. I really don't know why they don't use more of these .. soothes the "not-a-mechanical" aethstetics & you don't have to scratch that "not hitting each minute" quartz OCD itch. Win-Win.

Those are the VH series from Seiko. They are bigger movements, and they do suck battery quicker. Which is why they aren't used more often. I don't think they have a date either, but not 100% sure. Seiko puts sapphire on a lot of their quartz offerings, even at the low end. We just don’t get most of them in the US. The low end Astrons are the best value at the moment.
