I quite respect this company (Pagani Design), as they don't try to hide the nature of their brand. They don't make any ridiculous claims (unlike e.g. 'MVMT' or 'Vincero'), about offering "affordable luxury", and price their watches accordingly. Plus, the 'Aquaracer' homage that I bought just out of interest, about 18 months ago, is still running like a top as one of my two or three everyday, 'don't care if they take a knock or two' watches (I ain't using the 'B word!' ... you know the one). They're currently competing at the level in the market, that their watches would warrant, and those watches seem to sell quite well. My gut feeling is that they'll stick to the lower end of the market, as it seems to be serving them well, and I can't see more discerning watch buyers shelling out hundreds of pounds for something from a Chinese outfit called 'Pagani Design' - says the bloke who spent $300 on a 'Richard LeGrand' (which he loves, by the way).

If you're still looking for a nice quartz with a sweeping second hand please check out the Casio MTD-1086-1A. It's cheap and I was actually impressed of the quality you can get at that price point from Casio.

Thanks for the review! I was interested in this watch because of the Seiko movement, until the case was revealed to be just a chrome coated non-stainless steel metal. I'll avoid this one and look for another VH65 movement watch that is stainless steel and sapphire. I always trust your judgement and reviews, so thanks again.

Great review. Keep up the great work! Watch companies like Pagani selling homage timepieces have a place. For those of us just getting into collecting, Pagani, Loreo, and Cadissen give us a chance to try something before we spend serious money. Case in point, I bought a Pagani Daytona homage. Loved the look, feel, and the Seiko movement. One small problem: my eyes can no longer read the complications. So off to my son it went. He’s thrilled, he gets compliments, he can read it and best of all if he beats the life out of it, only $70 is lost. So I bought a black Timex Allied LT chrono instead as my timing watch. Looks great and I can read it. Similar story with the Loreo driver. No way I would drop hundreds on a top suby style diver before I knew I liked it the feel. I love it. Kept it and that allowed me to confidently buy a Seiko SNZK57, 55 Fathoms. Stunner and all the diver I need. So if this Pagani gives someone a taste of a dress watch, great! These “gateway” watches should be celebrated as much as those who are just getting into this hobby. PS: You’re spot-on about the Seiko Cocktail time. I get lost in the dial of mine every time I see it in the sunshine.
@georgechau68004 жыл бұрын
You are spot on regarding the cheap case and crystal. I would gladly pay more for a better quality case and sapphire crystal, even domed would be cool. The fact that they are trying to use a quartz movement means they are trying to improve. That automatic movement on that older cocktail Pagani was pretty bad, with its stuttering seconds hand. Their submariner homage is pretty darn good with its Seiko NH movement though I have heard from other reviews that the bezel is not great. The only downside for me on that watch is that it is too big; 43mm.

@BrianHartman4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about that date subdial. I can see why they did it, but I really don't think it was worth doing, the way they executed it. I think they would've been better off just leaving the subdial off and marketing it as a quartz version of their Mocktail Time.

Now THAT'S a quartz watch I'd actually consider buying. I wish more manufacturers out there would consider making watches with either this or similar movements, as it really does meet that sweet spot for most collectors giving the appearance of a mechanical movement with the longevity and accuracy of a quartz. Now of they had one that ticked 6 or 8 times a second, shut up and take my money!

@@RelativeTime oh I have. As another commenter says, they are like affordable Grand Seikos. Pagani should use that second hand motion for their diver quartz models. I looked at about 6 of them at a store today, and I saw that they can't align the second hand worth a damn (or the bezel). For the second hand, it almost seemed like they don't even try to align it, a good deal of them were halfway between second marks.
