Walking in Dordogne. France that you don't know yet!
Hi, Walkers! I'm Jay, Relaxed Walker.
This summer, as you know, it's complicated to go abroad because of COVID-19.
But, it does not matter, France has a lot of hidden, often surprisingly beautiful.
Dordogne, endowed with a pretty river which gives the name of the region, is not necessarily known worldwide by tourists (except for somme Europeans).
I only discovered this beautiful place a few years ago (although I have often heard of it ..).
Lots of things to see, do, visit, taste and above all admire.
Today, I make you discover the village of Limeuil, elected one of the most beautiful villages in France.

I used to live in this incredible village. This is a really great video, Jay - you managed to plan a route up so many little pathways, and covered most of it, not easy! May I explain what you filmed? I'd claim this as the most nearly perfect fortified medieval village survival in the whole of France. When you walked up to that top gateway, you found yourself in fields and trees. Today, many towns & villages still have a medieval 'bourg' - the central area, with it's old buildings surrounded by modern growth, supermarkets etc. But not in Limeuil! [It's pronounced Leem-aye, by the way]. There used to be four entrance arches, and only one has been destroyed, to allow car access to the upper village. Iron portcullis's protected the village - and at the top was a chateau. The little cobbled pathways form a criss-cross pattern, so that if attackers arrived from the river they could easily be intercepted. The archway halfway up (just before the street café) also had a portcullis, separating the village into two. The rivermen, blacksmith, tradesmen, baker, and wine 'caves' storing local wine on it's way to Bordeaux, were below this gate; and 'the toffs' lived above it [Limeuil Haut], in the shadow of the castle. At the end of the Hundred Years War (which actually lasted for about two hundred years - and was immediately followed by the 'Wars of Religion'] the villagers pulled down the castle building - so that (like a white flag) there was nothing evident to defend. My little house had an enormous stone fireplace with the King's Arms carved into it (3 'Fleur de Lys') - which must have been nicked from the old chateau! Best wishes to you, Jay - Michael x

Loved this walk, new to your channel, you seem to have the same need to look as I do, which is very satisfying, love the architecture the nooks and crannies, the balconies, little tucked away gardens and courtyards, well everything really, so thank you so much for taking this tucked away journey, exactly the kind of thing I do myself. When possible, which has not been for many years now. That place with the wisteria all over the verandah just after the church, made my heart skip 😍

How do you get such clear audio? My DJI Osmo does not seem to get audio as good as yours. Do you record audio separately?
