Take this Virtual Hike 4K from Rocamadour village to the Dordogne Valley, France. Enjoy some solitude and mature calmness.
We will take the hiking loop in the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park, next to the sacred village of Rocamadour. Rocamadour village is both a place of legend and history where old stone houses, majestic towers and a castle keep cascade off the cliff into the Alzou Canyon. It is one of France's most important tourist destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has also been a crucial pilgrimage site on the 'Way of Saint James' for hundreds of years. Enjoy the stunning variety of landscapes, from green undulating hills of woodland to the river itself.
Walk along the Alzou river in the Massif Central in the Lot crossing the Causse de Gramat.
He dug a canyon between Gramat and Rocamadour where vegetation is abundant. The Alzou gorges path takes you through a thick boxwood forest, where you will notably discover the ruins of a beautiful stone mill, the Moulin du Saut. Continuing this beautiful hike in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park located near Rocamadour taking the route between valleys and causses leads you to the discovery of karstic resurgences.
The Gouffre de Cabouy is a resurgence of the Ouysse. The Ouysse travels nearly 20km in an immense underground network, before resurfacing in a vast submerged cave.
The path in the forest then leads you to the Gouffre de Saint Sauveur, its waters are fed by the infiltration waters of the Causse de Gramat.
You will discover a beautiful basin with turquoise waters in a shaded and pleasant setting. The Gouffre de Cabouy and the Gouffre de Saint Sauveur are renowned for cave diving.
The landscape of the Dordogne Valley is known for its valleys of dramatic cliffs, the Rivers that meander through it and of course the medieval villages and castles that are scattered throughout. It’s also a landscape of deep oak and chestnut forests, caves, wild streams and arid plateaus.
The best way to discover the Dordogne Valley? Walking in nature is one of the best ways to discover the place. A UNESCO biosphere reserve, the Dordogne Valley is recognised for its outstanding natural beauty, pristine rivers, waterfalls and immensely rich cultural heritage which has been so well conserved. Natural beauty of the place makes walking and hiking such a massively popular activity here.
One of the most beautiful places on the planet, the Dordogne valley is rising in the Massif du Sancy in Auvergne and emptying into the Gironde estuary near Bordeaux, the Dordogne crosses much of south-west France.
