The Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a good start for the really oldschool side scrollers. If you choose to play it, seek out the manuals online. Couldn't put much story on those old cartridges. Castlevania III is chronologically the beginning, and you'll notice a lot of elements from the show. However, most of the plot is in the manual. They did a great job fleshing it out in the show. If you have a PS4, Castlevania Requiem is a great starting point. Two of the best in the series with enhanced graphics and better (some prefer the wonky original translation for Symphony of The Night, it does have a charm to it. The new translation is less campy) translation. Symphony of the Night is where the series transition into the Metroidvania style. Glad you're enjoying the show. It's beyond anything I expected, a true passion project.

@@t-universegamer7609 Sigh. T-Universe is right. Completely forgot about Lament of Innocence, which is like the 9th ( don't quote me on that) game released, but the first canonically, Castlevania III is technically the second canonically in the original series. MAN, Rainbow Cemetery has to be the most appropriate theme I've ever heard in any Castlevania, that initial opening exhumes a sense of "you're not supposed to be here", then it evolves into diving deeper into the mouth of madness with the occasional piano break (which always reminded me of those almost out of place shrine rooms with sword pickups). I had wished this level never ended as it was such a varied map with such a neat pile of secrets. :)
