It catches me out every time because somehow I think it shouldn't be so sudden, but it's amazing how you can sit there and watch the image appearing, and then all of a sudden, BOOM, in front of your eyes, it's 3D and you can see the billows and definition in the gas clouds. Thanks for showing us how it comes together Cat, you're so talented. As Terry Pratchett wrote, "It's still magic even if you know how it's done."

One of those brushes, I kept thinking "she's smacking it with a longhandled spoon... I guess it works though". At the end, I can see it on it's side though 11:52

Incredible! So glad the algorithm showed me your channel! How did you get your magenta and crimson transparent? Mix with something?
@CathrinMachinArt
@CathrinMachinArt 3 ай бұрын
That’s just actually how they come magenta is always a transparent colour in oil paint :) Crimson is sometimes transparent it depends on the brand, you just need to look at the back of the oil paint tube and it will tell you :)

Loved this video - it was both informative and really calming. My kids are studying the night sky (constellations, solar system, planets, stars, etc.) in science at the moment, and we would love to try creating a painting like this for our art curriculum. As far as brushes, if we were just starting out and wanted to achieve a similar effect, would you have recommended brushes we should get? We have some very basic paintbrushes, but nothing specific. I couldn't tell what the blending black brush (looked sort of like a toothbrush) was, for instance... any advice you have would be amazing! Also, what is that crimson you mentioned that you mix with the linseed?

I’m obsessed with your galaxy paintings and have been trying soo hard to do then myself but they never end up as beautiful as yours. Now I’m really close to giving up but I’m gonna try this one before giving up. BUT what kind of brush is that “toothbrushy” thing. And before adding the second layer, did you also add more linseed oil? And my last question, do you use sink white or titanium white?

You want super super soft brushes, makeup brushes for eyeshadow or foundation blending work amazing. Otherwise long soft bristle brushes otherwise. I like the Princeton select brushes

Do you mind clarifying the first part? Are you mixing crimson paint with linseed oil and painting over it? Or are you adding linseed oil and adding the paint to the brush and going over it with the brush?
