I live in the northernmost town of Iceland and one of the best childhood memories was to wake up with a crazy blizzard outside and be told that there would be no school due to weather. My god how good it felt to sleep in. Dive into dreamland again. I am nearly 70 and listening to this makes me feel the same way. No school tomorrow.

I find that nature in its perfection is the very best comfort. It grounds me and brings back all the beauty of this life and all its trials. I'd like to share a poem with you for the next time you winter camp. "Whose woods these are I think I know, his house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here to watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer to stop without a farmhouse near, between the woods and frozen lake, the darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake to see if there is some mistake. The only other sounds the sweep of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I've promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep...and miles to go before I sleep. God bless you! 1922 by Robert Frost

The cabin was warm. A comfortable illusion to the reality that lay an inch outside the window. The snow was gathering around the doors, tomorrows problems he thought with grim dismissal. For now the fire was all that mattered. To keep it going was more of a testimony to earned knowledge than a necessity to life. Proof that he wasn't conceited enough to be blind to those whom beat the track before him. A warm thought to cling to be mused. Yet still dawn would break. The sun would rise, and they day (no doubt) would yield it's conclusion. Today or tomorrow, either was beyond his control. So, numb he waited, dulled by whisky and nicotine. So the snow fell, the window blew. So he waited, wondering what the first light of Wednesday would reveal. Chapter one: before it went to sh*t

Nothing more ancient than the wind May thought too herself. With all its wisdom bellowing against the stern log cabin. As she lay, ever so comfortable. She soflty brushed her hair away with the thin blade of her finger, and cozily wiggled her legs to reposition herself. Deeper in, she was at peace on her bed. May pulled the cool heavy comforter sheets over her exhausted body. And she could feel herself sink into the memory foamed cushion of her mattress as she slowly and effortlessly drifted off to sleep as the howling winds caressed all of her senses.

I grew up on LI/NY in the 80’s SHOVELING in weather like this. You had too, accumulation of snow otherwise barricades you in (for the ppl who never grew up in snow saying “duh just wait for it to stop🤣) It’s great 1-2 days then not so much. I live south where a push brooms level of snow shuts the city down 🤣

Вернулась в счастливое детство. Дома тепло и уютно. Вся семья в сборе. Любимые блюда на заказ. И в школу идти не надо!!!👍

Why am I standing out here turning into a popsicle when I could be inside having a hot cocoa with marshmellow and popcorn and listening to some old slow quiet jazz as it competes for my attention with the muffled winds. Still wonderful, though.

I remember having to wait for Dad to plow the road with a tractor before the school bus could get through. Most times, the grid road was blocked for two miles, and we could not leave the home for days.

I see myself standing by that upstairs window, looking out at the snow, counting the days until summer.
