Met all 3 of you when you were bowling down in Colorado Springs a year or so ago. Dennis and Kyle, you both spent a good 45 minutes talking with me about anything and everything. The one thing I really appreciated about you 2 young men, was how open and sincere when we were talking. I love all of these lessons you share and relate them to every level of bowler!!!! Not that it matters, but I was the goofy guy with MS at the event in Colorado Springs. Keep the great videos coming and hope to be rooting for you at many more events!!!!!

Make sure and ask for an end lane so someone can stand on the side w/ your limbo bar - so you don't PO the staff at the bowling alley. Not everyone can throw their weight around and do whatever they want like Brad & Kyle ... 😁

Engage the core (lift pelvic floor), take a breath and get ready to make an athletic move and full-follow-thru are my two first-look fixes. I want to try the limbo in this video next. Kyle's last video had him releasing into the floor, this looks like it makes you do that. I like this series coaching the cameraman!

This is my 2nd full summer after coming back into the game after 30+ years. I'm up from last year and the winter league but still not where I want to be, currently low 190s. Last summer, I was having all sorts of thumb fit issues. Got that resolved and had a decent winter season. Bought a few more balls and went Turbo switch grip. Also changed PSO to someone more willing to get my thumb fit right. Summer started good but in July started yanking the ball pretty regularly. First game was usually ok, but then got worse over the set. Realized that its thumb fit and humidity issues. I like my thumb tight so not gripping and there is normal swell, so adjust tape as necessary. This summer, I noticed on very humid days (NY area) and when the center maybe isn't cranking AC it gets worse. I have stuck plenty of times this summer where I have to pull all tape out, wipe out all tape adhesive with alcohol pad and think about using slide rite. But now I see the yanking happens before the point of obvious sticking. Now that I'm aware, I try to take preventive measures, start using powder earlier, less tape, etc. First I thought maybe my timing was getting fouled up or not keeping elbow tucked. But it seems like its more a problem of humidity and getting stuck. Bowling swings happen so fast and if my thumb exit gets delayed by milliseconds it causes all sorts of problems for me not hitting my target. When it gets super stuck its obvious, ball goes flying a few feet in the air. But when its just a little stuck and its not obvious, I start pulling. Last week was pretty low humidity. League session on Thursday started great but there were thunderstorms forecasted. Middle of 2nd game, the storm blew in and I could tell humidity took off. All of a sudden, I'm yanking again and I could feel the moisture every time I put my thumb in the ball. Powder is useful to dry but the humidity also increases my swelling. So I gotta work with my PSO and get another thumb insert setup thats looser, especially on the sides since thats where all the sticking happens. Maybe not your problem but mentioning summer brought this to mind as I am just trying to fix this. Good luck.

Great video. Thanks for putting this together. I am a right hander who throws a hook but have been very inconsistent. I now see that I am throwing the ball out too far causing my over and unders. Thank you for the video I eat all this stuff up. This summer I bowled Wed Night Trio sports shot league. It was really humbling lol. However I had a few nights that were along with my normal Fall/Winter house shot leagues. I became a better spare shooter in the league that is for sure. I had seen a video or two of Brad and yourself showing us to throw into the lane and the video on the loft seem to really help me thru that sport shot. I seen 220 and better bowlers really get taken by the shot from week to week. I really look forward to trying this out. Thanks again to you guys.

I feel like I’m way past my prime at 31 yo and just don’t know how to recover. Maybe it’s better to accept and just keep averaging 180-190 since I need handicap to keep up with everyone else 😞😞😞

I don't tend to have this problem, or a chicken wing problem. I just struggle with inconsistency. I'm able to get a nice hook about once every 4 frames. Otherwise, I get a very narrow hook. Now I can't tell if its an oil issue or a swing/release issue.

what we used to do was to get a low chair put it on the sides of the lines that are not tightly connected like line 1 or the last lane or the lanes that are close to the pillar where you could put the chair, and then we put a mop the stick side would be in the lane that we are practicing and the heavy side would be on the chair to balnce it out, that is How I did it when I was practicing alone.

Ok, so I am somewhat of a noob to bowling, only been doing it for a little over a year now (196 average in league). I discovered something very important last night that may help other folks and fits right in with this video. While working on releases last night, I began working on getting as much revs on a forward roll as possible. I can get huge revs with a high axis rotation angle normally, but I wanted to experiment with achieving the same thing with much less axis rotation angle. I found that when I release properly in order to get those more forward revs (no pulling up at all), the ball would hook WAY more than I thought it would (I didn't lose nearly as much hook as I thought I would) and the ball would sit down much quicker (going under the pool cue like this video). I am beginning to feel what it means when they say "release like you are throwing a Yoyo, or flicking a booger off your finger). Instead of twisting and turning and pulling up on the ball, I am literally trying to point my fingers at the ground as quickly as I can (thumb up to the sky), basically doing opposite of pulling, almost more like pushing with the backs of my fingers. When I got it down, and could repeat it a few times, man, it was so much easier to (a) achieve a high rev rate (b) control my ball speed (c) control the axis rotation and hook (d) control rev rate, all in a much more predictable way. This pool cue drill would be fantastic while working on what I describe.

@@ianhoneycutt3858 - well, I did a little bowling back in college, like 40 years ago, nothing formal at all, just goofing around with a friend of mine who was an accomplished collegiate bowler (won State championships or something). But otherwise, yeah, wife and I started about 14 months ago. We played in our first leagues last winter. And I watch WAY too many KZbin videos on how to play. And, I have a bad habit of buying too many bowling balls (I have 9 of them now). But otherwise, I just practice, read, watch videos, practice. I was actually in 2 leagues last winter (joined a team who needed someone mid-season). The 1st league was just a 9-pin no-tap league my wife and I joined together. The 2nd league I played in was an actual USBC sanctioned league (straight up, more serious). I really messed up in the 2nd league because I didn't have a USBC average yet, so they start with my first series. I bowled WAY better than I am. Scored a 221, 219 and 243 .. yikes! .. well, as you can expect, I had a 0 handicap at that point. Well, things didn't get better for me moving forward. LOL. Of course my average declined week after week. Totally screwed myself. It was rather comical though because the guys on the team I joined were yelling "hell yeah, you're on OUR team" .. and I kept telling them "I am not this good, you're going to regret this". hahahah.. Well, now my USBC average has come down to 196 (+/- a couple of pins, would have to look it up). My 9-pin no-tap is around a 215 average (not sure exactly). They say I am doing pretty well for a 60 year old, old-fart and only playing for the past 14 months. I dunno, it doesn't feel that way sometimes, like when a 75 year old lady in the lanes next to me beats me by 40 pins .. hahaha! .. I am very inconsistent though. I seem to do pretty well in leagues, for the most part (probably more focused) but I can score a 120 or a 240 at the drop of a hat .. haha! .. Sometimes I get it figured out, sometimes not. I struggle mostly with trying to figure out lane conditions, ball to use, throw to use, where my stance and marks should be. I find that things to be the biggest puzzles. Throwing the ball is the easy part, for me anyway.

@@squidly2112 Those things will come in time. I've been bowling for 13 years now, and I can consistantly shoot 190-200 on house shot. My sport shot average is not where I want it to be (175ish), but that will grow soon enough. I switched to 2 hands last year, and I've had to completely re-learn how to bowl. Like you, I have about 9 balls, and they work well. And I get my rear handed to me by 60 year olds quite regularly, so no need to feel too bad!

@@ianhoneycutt3858 - During my practice last night (10 games), and not paying attention to scoring, I probably averaged about 170-180, had a few 200 games but also a few 140 games (working on stuff). I wasn't trying to score so much as working on release and experimenting with my ball arsenal, shapes, playing different parts of the lanes, etc .. I have only been able to play on a sport pattern a few times (after a tournament or sport pattern league). One of them (I don't recall which pattern now, I think it was some sort of US Open pattern or something) I found super difficult, scored terribly, but so much fun! .. another one (don't recall which pattern either) I actually played really really well on and had a blast with that one too. I love bowling on sport patterns. I need to get on to a sport pattern league this fall, would probably bowl terribly but it would be fun, and that's the point, isn't it? 🙂

@@squidly2112 Absolutely! If they weren't so expensive, I would bowl them more often myself. Unfortunately, the closest alley that has them is about 45 min-1 hour away, and 15 bucks a night+gas costs is too much for me. That being said, the more opportunities you have, absolutely take them. Sport leagues are great practice, and the only people you'll find there are those that simply want to be the best they can be!
