My understanding is that the cones on the early Eminence Blue Alnico that came on the first ones are the Donal Kapi brand used on the original Jensen Alnicos. Also, you can tweak the reissue to be closer to the original; such as remove the solid state rectifier plug in and put in a tube rectifier, change tube types and tweak the filtering. Also swapping the output transformer with an exact repro would be another possible tweak. Sounds great as is, though.

It helps that you pick like you are fresh out of the 70's. 😀I have a 1994 tweed Fender Blues DeVille modeled after the Bassman and mine has the same blue alnico's that you took out of the Bassman RI. I wonder if I popped similar speakers in it if I can change the tome in that direction as well? However I thought it sounds great with the blues in it too. Great video, love to watch you noodle around!

Excellent sounding amp and PLAYER. The Oxfords are sounding great, while I am mot sure if they are closer to the original. I'd probably would give the Jensen RIs the nod at that, as soon as broken-in.. If one is shooting for a smoother top-end and a bit more body over the P10R RI, the P10R-F are a great choice, keep the Alnico vibe and currently available brand new. I got a 4x10 with these. Can make epic noise, while keeping the db sensible (low efficiancy), helps pushing the Bassman harder before the soundguy kills you.
@JohanSegeborn6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Glad to hear that. Yeah the oxfords have a fuzzy quality to them that P10Rs don’t have. Cheers

@@JohanSegeborn yes, I do like unorthodox combinations from time to time, because I am not after a specific recreation of a certain tone, but after my own voice. So I have a brownface-related amp, that I love with my 'pair of 71 Pulsonic G12H 55Hz, while I do like my JMP related Puretone with light weight seamed-Cone AlNiCos... One man's dull and mushy is another ones smooth and creamy. The Bassman sounds great with the Oxfords, even If I'd make a different choice myself. Keep on doing that marvellous job. Cheers

The Oxford’s sound really great, Johan! I always wondered about those speakers. I have a blond Fender Tremolux in which I traded the speakers (what I think were probably 10” Oxford’s) when I had the Tremolux cabinet converted to 12” speakers. 😭 I guess I thought or always heard Oxford’s were dull and lifeless sounding. I also have a real ‘59 Bassman that someone had a head cabinet built for. I use it through a Marshall cab with 8 ohm Vintage 30’s with a switch wired to switch between 8 ohms and 2 ohms so that I can correctly match the transformer to the speakers.

Hi Johan. I don't know how uploading to youtube works, but some music content has uploads of MKV files instead of MP4. Since you went to the trouble of recording these sounds so well, it would be good to have them in better than MP3 sound, which is the maximum possible within the MP4 container, since so many of us listen to your work carefully on good headphones. Thanks very much for all you do.

Johan, I have a question unrelated to this video. Is it safe to use a 12 watt amp with a 6.5" speaker for a live setting? I have a solid state Laney LX12 combo amp I got back in 2006. I currently use it a lot now that I've place a Joyo American Sound amp sim pedal in front of it (It's suppose to replicate the sound of a '57 Tweed Deluxe with a mic in front of it). It's loud, but my only concern is if it's loud enough to work in a band setting, especially going up against drums. Interested to hear your thoughts. Great video also! Cheers from Barbados 🇧🇧

Thanks Kadeem! If the speaker is rated for say 20W and up it will work. 12W is only enough up against a soft jazz drummer though. Cheers
