I just bought a new Corvette. I was thinking about doing a relic job on it. You know, nothing too extreme, maybe Crack the windshield, kick in the quarter panel, burn a cou😢of holes in the driver's side seat. That should do it!

If the hum stops when you touch the strings, it is not a grounding problem. It is an emf problem. Check the area for bad light trans formers, appliances, or dimmers that are causing a lot of emf.

Glad to see the heritage! I have the exact same guitar and I absolutely love it as well! The pickups are amazing. The frets haven’t bothered me but I probably like more vintage frets. Only change I made was some faber locking tuners and the were exact drop in replacements and the kept the esthetic as well. Hands down one of my favorite guitars. I own a few Gibsons and it blows them all out of the water 👍 Also RIP to Edwin Wilson who had a lot to do with this guitar

i wanted a plain top CC, finally found one at SW, before they raised prices they seemed to have one last one in stock they put down to $3k, got em to do no tax too... and I'm super happy, i prefer the dirty lemon finish but i couldn't find a plain top of it on sale for a steep discount so i went w a tobacco burst that's actually sort of red, almost halfway bw a cherry and tobacco... i like i a lot. kinda think maybe i should be looking for a 535 instead of a 335... they just released the CC version of it, w block inlays, and they are stunning.. nice colorways but I'll probably end up pulling the trigger when they release a few more. they're pricey but the H-150 is so much nicer than any Gibson I have too, i'd have to imagine the 535 is much the same

@@ListenHereOldMan that is so funny. I’ve been thinking a lot about a 535 or a 530 now that they have them in the custom core models. They look amazing! I’m sure they are just as amazing as the cc h-150’s are!

@@engelsjn haha... ya know, i guess since i have a set of 225's in the h-150 i should get the 530 instead, i really do like the antique blonde.. dark cherry burst as well.. i gotta stop thinking about it, I'm too impulsive lol

@@ListenHereOldMan Grab the 530 full hollow body. The tail piece and bridge combo pushes down on the top. I like 335 style guitars (I have an Ibanez AS-180) as a "better Les Paul." But full hollow body guitars blend electric and acoustic properties and are something completely different. I have a Heritage Sweet 16 I play through an old Polytone Minibrute II. It's just a great guitar.
@ListenHereOldMan

@@scottmcloughlin4371 yeh i just ordered a hollowbody, it's actually a copy of the Collings JL 470, bc i love the way that thing looks but it's unobtanium (and like $8000 lol) but if and when i do go for sth in the price range of the 530/535 I'm sure i'll end up going 530... i like the finish only SW carries more than any of the 3 first std ones, and maybe by the time i get around to buying they'll have even more. bc it's just that at that point i can get a real late 60's es-335 in good shape. which would obv appreciate in value IMO, and i don't have a truly vintage guitar, other than a Fender Champ lap steel from the 50s. i gotta stop yappin or i'll talk myself into buying lol

Hi Phil. On the Eastman prices, I bought an Eastman SB59 in 2020, for just under $1500.00 new. This was at a time when a Les Paul Standard was going for around $2400.00. I have noticed the Eastman prices are now just below the price of a Gibson. I'm glad I got mine when I did! It's an awesome guitar for a great price (in 2020, anyway). You're right about the quality being excellent, too.

I bought a Heritage Custom Core shortly after they released them. I haven't had issues with the frets, it is a fantastic guitar! The 225 pickups are very vintage PAF, but I swapped them for a set of Jalen "Kingfish" humbuckers which are more aggressive in tone. It is my favorite guitar now. I ended up buying an H-535 and it is a perfect 335 style guitar.

Regarding the question about the nut being cut wrong and using a tuner to determine this. If the nut slot is the right depth but not cut at the correct angle, all fretted notes on that string will be a little sharp when the open string is in tune. This will be the case even when the first fret string action is perfect.

I had a 2021 R8 Gibson CS, An Eastman SB59/v , also a heritage h150 standard and a 2008 Gibson Les Paul traditional all at the same time. The best were the r8 and the Eastman was on par. The heritage was above the Gibson traditional for sure, but a bit less than the other 2. I sold all except the Eastman. The Eastman is fantastic. Love it so much. And I put a 225 heritage pickups on the Eastman and now is perfect for me. Eastman is quality wise on the Suhr and PRs level. About the finish I have the antique varnish before they changed it. I strongly suggest grabbing one of those cos that finish is awesome. Don’t know how the new one is.

Thanks for the heritage review! Been waiting for it for ages and was wondering why it was delayed. Frets are not too low for me because the action is so low and perfect. Only thing that bugs me is the single cut horn. It’s shorter than Gibson’s and digs into my leg when I sit with it for a little while. It’s my nicest guitar and it’s really phenomenal value and quality. Especially love how it feels like a vintage instrument.

A few years ago I bought a Fender Nate Mendel Precision which is reliced to match Nate’s. I initially wasn’t crazy about the idea, I mean the Geddy Jazz isn’t reliced. I bought it anyway because I liked the specs and the tone. Now the relicing is pretty light, Nate’s bass is almost 50 years old, but he obviously takes pretty good care of it. One day, I accidentally hit my drummer’s cymbal with the headstock and it got a little ding. That’s when I realized the advantage of a reliced guitar. If that had happened to my non-reliced Jazz, I would have been pissed. On the Nate, no big deal, just one more ding. I could even tell people that’s was from Taylor Hawkins cymbal 😅

Randomly putting this thought here in case anyone else has an opinion: In the last few years I've bought two Nitro gibsons and two nitro Fenders, and maybe it's me but I would like to hear others' experiences, that it feels to me like a Fender nitro neck is WAY stickier than Gibson. I never have to take a damp cloth to either Les Paul, but the Strat and Tele both need cleaned after just a few hours' play. Now, the Fenders are newer yes, but I don't remember having this problem at all with the Les Pauls, and it was only a couple years ago anyway.

I have a question and I hope it isn't one that shouldn't be asked at a NAMM show or anywhere else! Question seems pretty straightforward: which manufacturer of electric guitars offers the widest space between frets. Wider spaces would be great for us old guys. I understand a longe fretboard length will allow for wider spaces (unless two more frets are added). But looking at 22 frets, is one brand making frets spaced farther apart? I'm not looking for an acoustic. Any thoughts?

I live in Florida so I cannot stop into their store. I am thinking headless because it is less likely to get bumped out of tune. I am also thinking 4 string bass because I have an Eart. If I love the Kiesel I will probably replace the Eart with the Kiesel. If you can't help with this perhaps one of your friends at Kiesel can. Seeing there has been a lefty theme running through the episode, I would say the last 4 years has been very good to lefties (me). I was able to buy a lefty Gibson Explorer, Pelham Blue SG, A Gretsch Duo Jet for almost half price, a Bigsby equipped G5420T, and A Fender Jazzmaster. But now I see the lefty options are disappearing again as they become discontinued from the manufacturer. I find there is a 10 year cycle of when guitar companies try harder to cater to lefties. In 2000 when I started there was a lot of Lefties and then they disappeared. From 2010 to 2014 I bought a lefty PRS Custom 22, an EVH with a Floyd and a Gibson LP T, and then lefties disappeared again. Let’s see what happens around 2030.

I got so excited when they came out with the P90 equipped jets, only to find out they weren’t making a left handed version though…

im left handed ( im also moderately ambidextrous ) , in my opinion "right handed guitars" are actually left handed; the lefthanded dexterity required to play a "right handed guitar" imo is far grater than the dexterity required of the right hand. If "right handed guitars" work for right handed people i personally think there should be no "left handed guitars". I do suck at playing the guitar, but that's ad hominem.

I think I understand that Phil doesn't gush a lot about Eastman. Because he, like most channels, is focused on a more budget friendly price range and that is great. But I think he still understates their incredible relative value compared to "authentic", especially if the buyer is strictly disinterested in head stock label. For the price of one authentic super duper LP or 335 I was able to obtain the LP, the 335 and a sweat jazz box. All premium construction. Like for instance, the SB59 body is a single piece of mahogany with a gorgeous flame top. When I priced it, the cost was only about $125 above half the price of an authentic LP standard. All have top end components: Gotoh, Seymour Duncan, CTS, Switchcraft. Did I just hear Phil say that Eastman quality is more consistent than authentic? By golly.

Nitro finishes are trash and inferior. Let me explain why. Please try to remove bias from replies. The nitro that was used on vintage instruments was banned by the EPA in 1975. The nitro being using today is reformulated, restricted, and not the same stuff. There's also a ton of marking BS surrounding nitro somehow being more legit for serious instruments. When you spray nitro, 70% of the product consists of toxic solvents that evaporate. What's left is a thin, fragile finish that never fully cures. To do it right, you need to build up several thin layers. Gibson, for example, lays it on thick, in order to save time. This is why many folks have been complaining about the sticky feel of Gibson necks. Nitro finishes continually off-gas for years (has a sweet bar soap smell). This is neurotoxic and can affect the endocrine system as well as development of children's neurological systems. With that, I would not have a nitro guitar next to my bed or in my kids' room. There is no tone difference between poly and nitro. There has been no credible A/B tests using a DAW. Any perceived difference is placebo. Yes, nitro is easier to relic. This is a totally different topic. There's a running joke of doctors and lawyers buying custom shop relic guitars so they can give the impression thay have a lot more playing time invested than they actually do. Folks, save yourself the hassle and go for more modern finishes. If not for your health, then for your family?
