I played around with it some. A setting of 4 on the new F2 bias will knock most bottlecaps in my area to iron. Anything below that, like a setting of 3-2-1 they will come in at around 12-14. You can only run one iron bias mode at a time. Whichever one you are on when you exit is the active one. Need to do some more testing.

Thank you so much for the feedback 👍 the default is set at 6 on the 800.. I was curious at what number the bottle cap would drop at. Thanks so much for sharing!

Excellent tutorials, I'm addicted to them and I just subscribed. I have about a quarter of a century under my belt metal detecting, although I slowed down a lot lately. I used some Whites and Fishers, never a Minelab. So very recently I jumped back into the present and got myself a Nox 800 (just received 2 days ago). Yesterday I took it out for the 1st time to a county park behind my house where I hunted before many times and found 9 coins in less than 2 hrs, among them a wheat penny and a 1947 Rosi, and 6 trash items. I'm taking baby steps in learning this machine, using only factory pre-sets for now. For the past 2-3 months, since I decided to buy this, I watched hundreds of tutorials and videos. The iron bias was one the more difficult aspects of this machine to learn, that is until I've watched your tutorial and it all cleared up in less then 3 minutes. Tomorrow I'm taking it to a lake for a fresh water and beach trial. I could use your expert advise on what program to use and I will experiment the FE and F2. All the best and thank you again!

Thank you, I’m so happy you’re enjoying the tutorials. I spent my first few months only using the presets and they are great. This machine will take time to learn but worth the patience. Iron bias was difficult to understand and I had fun testing it out. You being an experienced detectorist, in high trash and hard hit sites keep that iron bias on zero. If you get too many falsifying iron nails, reduce sensitivity down to 18-20. If I’m scoping an area and I don’t have a lot of time, I will then sometimes up the iron bias.. it depends on the type of hunter you are.. all setting are to suit personal preference and site conditions. After three years with this machine, using zero iron bias, I’ve learned the iron tones. I found it was best suited for my hunted hard locations.. I prefer to decide to dig it or not. 👍 using iron bias you’ll dig less of everything not only iron 😁. Fresh water beach I would use Park mode. Park 2 is a little more difficult but worth learning right away. It will pick up fine small items. Beach mode is really only recommended for salt water beaches or on some fresh water beaches that have a high concentration of black sand.. the magnetic stuff you can pick up with a magnet. If mineralization is not a problem, park mode would be a great choice.. Have fun tomorrow 😊

Thanks for posting but we need some more info from Minelab. So is the detector now using both iron bias settings at once? How would you not use one over the other one? Would you set both at the same number, if not how will that affect things. I will play around with the settings and figure out what works best for me but it would be nice if they gave us more info on its use.
@RelicDirtyhands
@RelicDirtyhands 5 жыл бұрын
It works the same way as Iron bias but this new F2 is enhanced.. You can only use one at a time and not both.. FE will not interfere with F2 and vis versa.. if you dig a lot of nails and bottle caps, switch to F2 Iron bias.. you can increase or decrease the setting the same way as the original.. low means it will give a more natural response and you may dig more falsing.. High F2 will clasify more under iron like bottle caps and rusty nails .

I appreciate your work on these tutorials, they are really helpful. Quick question: when in the F2 mode on the 800, how do the 1-9 adjustments work? Would the lower number mask out more iron or the larger? Does what lower or higher number setting effect depth ... I’ll have to experiment I suppose.
@RelicDirtyhands
@RelicDirtyhands 5 жыл бұрын
It works the same as FE, the original iron bias, low means a more natural response, high it will more likely to classify it as iron.. F2 the default is 6 just like it was in FE. I suggested people watch the original iron Bias, as they work the same, just F2 is now enhanced but is still iron bias 😊

It is my understanding so far that the two Fe and F2 actually work in conjunction. The lowest F2 setting would be an overall -1 Fe setting. I’ve got to spend more time working these settings in a picnic grove - carpet of bottle caps. Always more to learn.
@RelicDirtyhands
@RelicDirtyhands 5 жыл бұрын
It shows in the manual they work independently, when using FE, F2 is off and vice versa 😊 F2 still loves aluminium caps but most others it does well with.. I have a bottle cap beach running it max F2 9 was the only way I could mask them.. but I also feared I was masking the good targets as well.. this beach is littered with them

Thank you - I’m trying to get the straight info on Minelab’s intent. I’ve read and watched many sources of info on it. I do need to experiment a bit. I usually leave Fe at zero. F2 I’m going to test it it between 0 and 4 while leaving Fe at 0.
@RelicDirtyhands
@RelicDirtyhands 5 жыл бұрын
Ytcoinshooter testing is out is best, I love using iron bias 0 with 50 tones, you get used to the falsifying and really get to know it’s sounds and language.. in my test I didn’t notice a big difference from 0-4 but once I reached 6 I could clearly hear a difference.. all these settings are a give and take.. natural response 0 you may dig more undesirable targets.. running it high, you may miss targets in close proximity to iron producing the halo effect. I use it at zero not to miss a thing.. when I’m in a rush I boost it. The best info you can get is by Minelab.. all my tutorials have been based on the manual and answers I received directly from Minelab. I was shocked at the amount of false information that was being shared.. miss guided information as well. It can get confusing and overwhelming.

@RelicDirtyhands
@RelicDirtyhands 5 жыл бұрын
Tugboat yes, your changes are automatically saved. I would suggest Minelabs default to start., if you find yourself digging to much iron or bottle caps increase it.. if not you can decrease it for a more natural response

If the Fe2 setting helps null out iron nails, bottletops and other iron objects in general why would you bother going back to the original Fe setting, i.e in what conditions would the original Fe setting be better than Fe2 setting?

@@pero1337 are you having problems with iron or bottle caps? Zero is best, but if I use it or need it, I usually use a max of 4 and that’s usually enough for my sites. F2 was a version added with a later update. It’s a good overall iron bias but really helps when you’re digging to many bottle caps and chunky iron. The higher it’s set, the more you risk good targets being classified as iron, but using iron bias could reduce how many trash targets you dig. In areas I hit hard, I keep it at zero. But before I get frustrated I increase to 4. If you are dealing with too much falsifying, a reduced sensitivity can also help in those situations.

Personally I’m happy because I use the original FE 0.. My understanding is they created F2 to deal with steal bottle caps.. FE is used to deal with mixed metals and iron, F2 is used to deal with steal bottle caps and mixed metals. Personally I never raise my iron bias, I do prefer the natural response. My first year I found the machine complicated but it changed once I fully understood what all the settings do, now it’s all fun ☺️.. usually people search for iron bias when they are digging to many undesirable targets. I learned quickly what a falsifying nail sounds like and preferred zero.. the higher the iron bias the more the machine will classify mix metals as iron.. when in high iron nail trash, the machine does false, it’s super sensitive and I’ll drop the sensitivity a notch or two.. my last machine would often pick up nail tips as a high tone. Yet when you pinpoint it will slightly shift you over onto the iron. A false tip will be hard to isolate as you x over the target.. it’s like it moves a little.. a good target doesn’t react the same. I hope this helps 👍
