A year after this video, I have upgraded to the manticore and after watching many hours of 'instructional' videos, this is the only one that really matters. Pity you didn't carry on this series. The effort though must have been signifcant and thus is well appreciated. Minelab should pay you to do all their stuff.

Is the iron volume on the 440 set by default to the same volume as the other metals or have Minelab been kind and set to a lower limit as the ferrous volume cannot be user adjusted like it can on the 540?

Extremely nice finds, so cool, the greatest trick though is to find those Victorian spots! I tried for example the Victorian as in Riverdale Park in Toronto West and East but no luck at all! Will keep trying, thanks for sharing.

I want to thank you for encouraging me to keep trying with manticore. I was disappointed with it for quite some time, but now after really learning it good it is an awesome machine and I really love it. I have to admit that it was not the machine that was lacking but my own knowledge. Thank you for helping me and encouraging me to keep going.

None of the current metal detectors on the market can be equal to a simple analog metal detector Tesoro Lobo Supertraq in terms of quality and accuracy of the discriminator, as well as in filtering out trash. All these jumping ID numbers will still force a person to waste time digging up useless metal. While Lobo simply filters out trash and always confidently beeps for gold.
@RelicDirtyhandsАй бұрын
@@js-sound you obviously haven’t learned this machine yet. I’ve had a record gold count this year. You can’t compare a single frequency detector to a multi. Using 17.5 kHz you will be missing the fine and small gold. There is a lot to learn about how frequencies react to metals. When you know you know.
@js-soundАй бұрын
@@RelicDirtyhands I couldn't find only chains with Tesoro, because 17.5 kHz is a problem for chains. But it saw 1 gram of gold super, didn't give false signals with metal. I did a test like this: 45 cm deep and 1 gram of gold, then I filled it all with earth, did a test in discrimination mode for all metals except gold. It beeped steadily! I added metal to gold, it beeped for gold even with 50...100 grams of junk metal. Then I removed gold weighing 1 gram and it didn't give a signal for metal. Tesoro is the king! And all modern detectors have the stupidest discriminator and everyone writes it off to mixed metal! While Tesoro doesn't have this problem and the discriminator has never interfered with it searching for gold between foil, iron, beer caps, etc. That is, all modern detectors are false information about conductivity or, to be more precise, they display the total reading and can assign gold the number 20...39....55...76...82. Which makes the work of such a discriminator useless.

Being new to detecting i was watching videos on finding coins but the numbers didn't help and now I'm realizing that metal content in coins is different in different countries, Have I got that correct? Thinking I'll try laying out targets of coins and trash like bottle caps, foil and pull tabs and record the numbers to help with search. Thank you for the video and the help getting me hunting.
@RelicDirtyhands2 ай бұрын
@@woodyl8416 yes that’s correct 😊 doing a test is a great idea, but be careful discriminating numbers. The quality of sound is a better guide.
@woodyl84162 ай бұрын
@@RelicDirtyhands Hmmm... I don't understand "the quality of sound is a better guide" do you mean the strength/volume of the sound? or the tone pitch? Is this explained in one of your videos? I'm in the process of watching each video. Thank you so much for your videos.
@RelicDirtyhands2 ай бұрын
@@woodyl8416 you will notice a difference in the quality of tones, a bottle cap doesn’t sound as good as let’s say a gold ring. It takes time to recognize the difference but well worth learning. A good target unless really deep is usually a nice crisp tight signal, a rusty bottle cap sounds scratchy. To avoid bottle caps I would use the iron bias vs discrimination. An iron bias 2 on the 600/700 or an iron bias of 4 on the 800/900 dirties up the bottle caps even more so it’s easier to move on.
@kurts72162 ай бұрын
Sorry Coiltech but the truth hurts. My 5x10 will barely pick up a silver dollar at 5”. I go through spells when I hear no targets whatsoever. I swap to the stock 6” or 11” and resweep the same area and find targets. I’m not even remotely impressed with my 5x10. Yes it’s been replaced once but the replacement acts the same way

3 main types of bottle caps 1.) Steel 2.) Tin Coated 3.) Zinc Coated Variations? Aluminum foil coated and at at least 1 rare chrome looking cap. Pull tabs also vary in metallic composition. One difference is the iron content. Iron. A close look at the alloys used in the composition of modern steel and iron related products should be printed in Minelab's manual. The list is extensive and complex. Iron in nature is common and very frequently an associate of precious metals. Aluminum silicates are a component of certain gemstones.

Thanks for the explanation. I have a question about this modes. In my equinox 700, the field 2 mode ignores completely a big silver coin (air test), unless I change to 4/5KHz. This video explains that multi frequency for this mode prioritizes the higher frequencies, but is it expected that big silver coins are ignored completely by default multifreq or could be something wrong with my unit? The field 1 mode detects the coin perfectly. The field 2 mode also ignores big copper coins in multifreq, but detects them when picking individual frequencies.

@@RelicDirtyhands oi, thanks for answering still going near F2 - 0 and Fe - 0? or you pump it up on first run
@RelicDirtyhands6 ай бұрын
@@pero1337 are you having problems with iron or bottle caps? Zero is best, but if I use it or need it, I usually use a max of 4 and that’s usually enough for my sites. F2 was a version added with a later update. It’s a good overall iron bias but really helps when you’re digging to many bottle caps and chunky iron. The higher it’s set, the more you risk good targets being classified as iron, but using iron bias could reduce how many trash targets you dig. In areas I hit hard, I keep it at zero. But before I get frustrated I increase to 4. If you are dealing with too much falsifying, a reduced sensitivity can also help in those situations.

Good luck! There should be an old bottle dump on most 1800's properties. We find them on the hillside and bottoms of ravines. For flat areas, they often dug a pit in the yard to bury them or threw them in low areas in the bush. Sometimes the obvious glass or bottles on the surface aren't visible. A good probe would help in these cases.
