I'm far from religious. I'd go as far as to call myself an atheist. That said, this song speaks to me on a level I don't quite grasp. It makes me cry in joy.

That's because it's a beautiful song. I just want to say, you're not automatically religious if you believe in Jesus or God. Religion is about laws and rules and you have to be "good" enough to get to heaven, while believing in Jesus is completely different. Have a good day

themagicman2010 When it comes to Christianity, Christians like myself believe that only God is good (Jesus even says so- Mark 10:18), but that doesn't mean we're not forgiven for not being perfect. The most important thing about Christianity is loving God. That's what God commands, not being good enough because it's impossible to be good enough. So yes, Christianity does have rules, but the thing is it's about loving God so much since He's our Father and He knows what's best for us that we want to do what He says. Just like human fathers and the rules they set.

gymnastgirlflips Yeah exactly what I meant, I guess I suck at wording things. You can never work your way to heaven and be "good" enough because that's impossible. Jesus is the only connection you can have to God and heaven.

This song just shows that everyone has their own interpretation of each and every song. I don't care if this song is religious or not, it has a different meaning to me. It's songs like these that show you who you are and what you've been through just by the way you listen to it.

I found this song at the height of my awkward emo/fangirl phase, and it spoke to me with my anxieties of never being more than I am (which I tried to compensate for with fictional characters at the time). Now listening back to it, a day and a half before the most important audition of my life, it still screams the same message. But I can take a lot more comfort in knowing that I'm doing everything I can to 'get out of here', and that my complacency is something I can shake. With a little help from God, even though I'm not the most devout Christian, I have a lot more hope than I did when I was 14 that I will turn out to be something great. I'm gonna save my own skin, one step at a time.
@tatltails3923
@tatltails3923 3 жыл бұрын
Hey old me...! Unfortunately, that audition didn't go well. You still got into a good college, got a Bachelor's Degree and everything, but there isn't much to show for it yet. We are right back in the rut, possibly farther in than ever. The complacency got real bad after the world started falling apart, there's not much hope of shaking it right now. You've got some better friends and a healthier relationship with your family, all of that's alright, not to worry, but the fear this song speaks to has come true and we don't have dreaming of college anymore to get through it. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, old me...

I've given up on giving up slowly, I'm blending in so you won't even know me Apart from this whole world that shares my fate This one last bullet you mention is my one last shot at redemption Because I know to live you must give your life away And I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity and I've been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me And even though, there's no way in knowing Where to go, promise I'm going because I gotta get outta here I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake I gotta get outta here And I'm begging you, I'm begging you, I'm begging you to be my escape. I'm giving up on doing this alone now 'Cause I've failed and I'm ready to be shown how He's told me the way and I'm trying to get there And this life sentence that I'm serving I admit that I'm every bit deserving But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair 'Cause I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity and I've been locked inside that house all the while you hold the key And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me And even though, there's no way in knowing Where to go, promise I'm going because I gotta get outta here 'Cause I'm afraid that this complacency is something I can't shake I gotta get outta here And I'm begging you, I'm begging you, I'm begging You to be my escape. I am a hostage to my own humanity Self detained and forced to live in this mess I've made And all I'm asking is for you to do what You can with me But I can't ask You to give what You already gave 'Cause I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity and I've been locked inside that house all the while you hold the key And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me And even though, there's no way in knowing Where to go, promise I'm going because I've gotta get outta here I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake I've gotta get outta here And I'm begging you, I'm begging you, I'm begging you to be my escape. I fought you for so long I should have let you in Oh how we regret those things we do And all I was trying to do was save my own skin But so were you So were you

in 2012 I gave my life to Jesus. I was in a place of hopelessness. Drugs, addiction, just out of a bad relationship. God really came to me and turned my world upside down. There's a verse in the Bible where Jesus says "whoever finds his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. After I decided to follow God I battled a year and half depression. I completely lost myself. But that's where I found myself. True Hope. True Peace. True Joy. True Love. So much overflowing. I had no grips on my own life anymore but was trusting god for every detail. Prayer was like breathing. I had to lose it all to see it all. But now it's been 6 years and this song speaks to exactly what I'm going through. Trying to find God again. Stuck in myself. "but I can't ask Him to give, what He already gave". I'm begging Him to rescue me and be my escape again. I tried to find life again. I turned back to my selfish patterns and ways that please me and me only. I started living for things that are temporary and desiring things that make my ego feel better. But God looks for those who have "lowly spirits". God rescues those who recognize their need for Him. He looks for people who have willing hearts. Jesus said the "childlike" will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. I know for the rest of my life where my hope belongs. But it's so much harder now than it was then... Romans 12:2 Meant the world to me back then. It still means a lot. I don't have passion for God anymore. It's not sincere. God want's people who love and have mercy on others. People who are going to trust in Him and seek Him. Depend on Him. Please pray... There is no one more blessed than the man who prays for the first time in his life in the name of Jesus. Faith really does move mountains. Just rambling now. But I hope someone could learn from my mistake. If you have God's presence, love, favor, and Spirit with you... Cling! Desperately. Trust Him. Be faithful to Him. We won't be perfect but neither was King David. But his heart was set on seeking God with his entire heart. And He was blessed greatly for it. His son Solomon however, took God for granted. He wasn't faithful, and because of it him and all his people suffered the consequences. I wanna love Him again.

That high pitch ringing means that this was ripped from on of the early runs of the apathetic ep that had an engineering fault from one of the acoustic guitars. In later runs they fixed this. I bought a copy of the ep off ebay a couple of weeks ago and, joy, it turned out to be one with the ringing on most of the tracks. Oh well, I guess it can be a collector's if I want to see it that way. If you don't want to listen to the ringing, you can buy it on itunes, it'll have the fixed versions ;)

Alternately you could probably mix it out yourself by inserting a low pass filter set to cut out only the offending frequency. Since it's so much higher than the rest of the song you shouldn't lose anything important.

Here's my interpretation of the song: First of all, I'm a Catholic. Second of all, I am like one of THE worst Catholics. Until recently, my attendance to church was poor. I don't have prayers memorized. Etc. Third of all, I'm not speaking for Christians or Christianity or anything. This is just an opinion. Anyways, I think the song ISN'T about religion or God. At least not in general. It's about a man who believes in God but he's lost his faith, almost entirely. He's about to commit suicide in an attempt to challenge God, or rather, challenge the existance of God. The man is trapped inside a house of "doubt and insecurity," and only God has the key to set him free. Literally speaking, he's doubting the existence of God, and in reality, only God can prove whether or not He does. Science can't prove He doesn't exist, and religion can't prove He does. This is why I think faith is such a crazy subject! The song is riddled with "religious-y" lyrics. The band is a Christian bands after all. "the beauty of grace" - Grace, a word heavily associated with Christianity. Seriously, I googled "Grace" and it's the first thing that pops up "i know to live you must give your life away" - according to the bible, Jesus 'gave his life away' in the cross in order to save from our sins so we can live. Shout out to Big Homie J "And all I’m asking is for You to do what You can with me But I can’t ask You to give what You already gave" - he feels guilty for asking God for help when God's already given him so much (kinda hard to bargain with someone who's gave you a life) "And all I was trying to do was save my own skin, but so were You" - this is the line that got me. I myself didn't think this was a religious song, but then I looked up the lyrics online and saw that "You" was capitalized. And I was like "...wait, this songs religious?" Anyways, the man is about to pull the trigger in order to "save his own skin" (save himself) from whatever was troubling him (depression, financial problems, girlfriend turned into a ho). "but so were You" - in the bible, we are all God's sons and daughters, and God was trying to save his own skin too, in this case, saving his son, the man. When the man realizes this, he doesn't commit suicide. He retains his faith, and God was his escape from the house of doubt and insecurity. The song ends on a positive note. He sings "so were You" in a heavenly angelic falsetto. Faith retained. Don't let my interpretation change your interpretation. Believe what you want to believe. Tbh I just commented because I was planning to perform this song at my church and I looked up this video up and saw the comments and I was like "ah crap what if the priest doesn't think this is a religious song" lol

I love this version of the song, but I have a hard time listening to it with headphones because of the high pitched screeching? Does anyone else hear it? I don't think it's my ears ringing, but it's a similar frequency- you can really hear it at :07 and it gets really loud at 2:36 then just abruptly drops in volume about a second after. I don't know what it is, but it can give me a headache and it'll cause my ears to ring qwq sucks because I like this song

Justin Reyes Oh I know! ^c^ in fact, I'm kind of fond of it because it's religious. I'm not downplaying religion. I think it's done good things for people. It's just not my cup of tea.

I think there are a lot of people like me who grew up as christians until their teenage or adult years. After all music is about moments in our lives and when a song is good many of us can identify with it in different aspects.

I don't think this song is about god at all. It seems to be a song about a person who has made many mistakes and wants to fix then but can't.

Funny how this is a Christian band yet you get a lot of atheist/non-religious people who appreciate this. I guess it's alright to like something that doesn't pertain to you're beliefs. Hell, Matt Thiessen cites NoFX as a huge influence on the band, and we all know how they feel about religion.

Yeah.. I'm in a bit of stress in school.. I'm in a continuation school and so I see it as I'm stuck inside this rut that I had fallen into by mistake. I think the song is suppose to be more intentionally in the ears of the listener not to him exactly

dylan8550 Just saying people can interpert song very diferently. It doesn't mean what you think just because YOU think that. It could be many things. Reliant k is a christian band and it may very well be about someone stuck in a rut and asking god to be his escape from his mess of sins. Just saying, it could well mean what your saying and all those other things like highschool.
