The land was inhabited by various tribes and ruled by many different kingdoms for the next two millenniums. Before the arrival of Islam in the 7th century, there were a number of religions practiced in ancient Afghanistan, including Zoroastrianism, Surya worship, Paganism, Hinduism and Buddhism
Archaeological exploration of the pre-Islamic period of Afghanistan began in Afghanistan in earnest after World War II and proceeded until the late 1970s when the nation was invaded by the Soviet Union. Archaeologists and historians suggest that humans were living in Afghanistan at least 50,000 years ago, and that farming communities of the region were among the earliest in the world.Urbanized culture has existed in the land from between 3000 and 2000 BC. Artifacts typical of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze, and Iron ages have been found inside Afghanistan.
After the Indus Valley Civilization stretched up to northeast Afghanistan, it was inhabited by the Iranic tribes and controlled by the Medes until about 500 BC when Darius the Great (Darius I) marched with his Persian army to make it part of the Achaemenid Empire. In 330 BC, Alexander the Great of Macedonia invaded the land after defeating Darius III of Persia in the Battle of Gaugamela. Much of Afghanistan became part of the Seleucid Empire followed by the Greco-Bactrian Kingdom. Seleucus I Nicator was defeated by Chandragupta Maurya and gave his daughter in peace treaty. The land was inhabited by various tribes and ruled by many different kingdoms for the next two millenniums. Before the arrival of Islam in the 7th century, there were a number of religions practiced in ancient Afghanistan, including Zoroastrianism, Surya worship, Paganism, Hinduism and Buddhism. The Kaffirstan region, in the Hindu Kush, was not converted until the 19th century.
Afghanistan is an Islamic republic, in which most citizens follow Islam. As much as 99% of the population follow Sunni Islam.According to The World Factbook Sunni Muslims constitute between 84.7 - 89.7% of the population, and Shia Muslims between 10 - 15%. 0.3% follow other minority religions

In January 2005, Levy died of natural causes, leaving Simintov as the sole known Jew in Afghanistan.He cared for the only synagogue in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.He was still trying to recover the confiscated Torah. Simintov, who does not speak Hebrew,claimed that the man who stole the Torah is now in US custody in Guantanamo Bay. Simintov has a wife and two daughters, all of whom emigrated to Israel in 1998, and he said he was considering joining them. However, when he was asked if he would go to Israel during an interview, Simintov retorted, "Go to Israel? What business do I have there? Why should I leave?" In April 2021, Simintov announced that he would emigrate to Israel after the High Holy Days of 2021, due to the fear that the planned withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan would result in the Taliban's return to power.

As an Afghan Jew I have a strong relationship with all my fellow Afghan Jews and Afghan Hindu & Sikh community in NY. Thank you for this video the numbers are pretty accurate. I studied and know the history by heart it was taught by us when I was in school in Kabul as a child during the 1960's. Yes Zoroastrian was they main faith including Hinduism and then Buddhism. The Arab invaders came and all went downhill from there. The Afghan Jews were merchants and delt with the carpet busniess. The Afghan Jews settled one thousand years back . Currently the largest Afghan Jewish community in NY is at the Congregation Anshei Shalom. Their still doing construction on the Synagogue but all is welcomed to come.

The two biggest sins in Islam is too associated someone/something with the creator and to commit murder. Secondly Adultery, homosexuality, sex outside marriage are all sins in Islam and should be punished. Thirdly, our prophet Muhammad PBUH married Aisha RA when she was eligible for married. Fourth the concept of Islam worshiping the creator alone, doing good deeds, righteousness, five times prayers a day and following God way is beneficial for us human being.
