Philosophy begins with questions, religion starts with answers. This is obviously an over-generalization, yet it helps to reveal a fundamental difference between the two in a simple way. Ideally, a philosophy should teach you to not just accept answers at their face-value, but to question the answers themselves. No less ideally, a religion should teach you that some things of vital importance are simply a matter of faith, and, therefore, not logically provable. For example, there is no logical proof (that does not beg the question) that human life is something inherently valuable and worth preserving, nor that anything you do has any real significance whatsoever, nor that love is better than hate, peace is better than war, or, knowledge is better than ignorance. In other words, each of these valuations depend upon the acceptance of values that cannot be logically proven, and, therefore, must be taken on faith. Ideally, a philosophy should teach you the importance of inquiry and reason, whereas a religion should teach you the importance of values and faith. No one should wholly abandon either their reason nor their faith, for presumably God (or nature) has given you both for a reason.

I’d also like the propose the overarching theme of religion is logic presented by value and reasoning. In order for a religion to be perceived as truth, a simple construct of faith and emotion isn’t in essence the way of following a religion. As an instinct of formulating religion as an inertia is wrong and I think it’s better to look at religion ( as you said) at answering the question but covering it with fact. The abrahamic religions are the best descriptions of truth and logic being answered ( less on Christianity), but of course people will overshadow that by the atrocities established within few of them. But again the core message is monotheism and that message has always been the same; the power of man and corruption of man is always been established in religion, hence why religion such as Islam places itself as the final one to testify to such claims of corruption. Which is why I say that Islam is the perfect religion which represent religion perfectly. It’s a religion that enforce those in it to learn and understand of it preservation and not being swindle or manipulated by other groups. Many answers provided with genuine proof to not hinder there claims and many philosophers who align with these as well ( going on a tangent but all I have to say is study Islam and get to know it and the other abrahamic religions. As I simply feel that religion shouldn’t be looked as one simple idea of faith but genuine logic and moral conduct)

Key word "FAITH..." I choose not to live my life through "sophistry, theory or fallacies." My only issue with any ideology is the "IMPOSITION" of that said ideology specifically towards the youth. As usual, your "example" is just a bunch of "WORD SALAD" that always lead back to your "GOD" that is in question. Trying to replace the burden of proof with faith simply won't work on the "PRACTICAL" thinker. My position has always been for every individual to do what works for them. Personally, I'm not a detractor of religion or any ideology specifically, I treat them all like "Home Depot," the tools that I need I'll purchase & add to my toolbox accordingly, the latter will remain on the shelf. For example, "fear, hell & heaven" is not in my toolbox... Good Luck!

I disagree here - philosophy means love of wisdom and not Knowledge - the branch of philosophy to do with knowledge is epistemology. Belief in god and Gods does not rule one out of philosophy as many people have made philosophical arguments for and against God that are grounded in reason and logic (cosmological, Teleological, argument from morality etc). The difference between philosophy and Religion IMO would be Revelation and religious experience is central in religion whilst it is not in philosophy - although both have came together plenty of times see Thomas aquines and al Ghazzali.

Philosophy is radical questioning, but to really question - to push one’s questioning to the brink of the abyss - one must be an atheist, for faith gives answers too soon. … Faith and philosophy are mortal enemies; in fact, ‘faith is so absolutely the mortal enemy that philosophy does not even begin to want in any way to do battle with it.’ ‘the philosopher does not believe’ - she or he cannot believe, because faith is in radical opposition to the very nature of philosophy as questioning.” ~The Fall of Interpretation, p.108

@@heartsxday It all depends on what we mean by "faith". Faith to me (and many others) does not mean blind belief. Faith to me is like trust as a result of evidence, not blind trust or blind belief. So you're question creates/presupposes a false dichotomy. As a religious person myself, there are certain practices/rituals I do that have proven to work in my life and in the lives of others. But I certainly dont have all the answers to life! Some religions make it a duty to observe the world, find our talents, contemplate, seek and acquire knowledge. Islam even goes further by banning monasatism, no monks or nuns in our religion. We are expected to be a productive part of society, to seek knowledge, and to keep to the middle path. So there are many paths to God but I think you know that those paths ARE different. For some people, "faith" probably does mean "blind belief". But to many premodern muslim scholars, and philosophers of religion today...that is not how faith is defined.

@SpiritualPsychotherapyServices

🐟 03. CONCEPTS Vs THE TRUTH: The term “TRUTH” is a grossly misused word. Anything which has ever been written or spoken, by even the greatest sage or Avatar (incarnation of Divinity), including every single postulation within this Holy Scripture, is merely a CONCEPT and not “The Truth”, as defined further down. A concept is either accurate or inaccurate. Virtually all concepts are inaccurate to a certain degree. However, some concepts are far more accurate than others. A belief is an unhealthy and somewhat problematic relationship one has with a certain concept, due to misapprehension of life as it is, objectively-speaking. Attachment to beliefs, particularly in the presumption of individual free-will, is the cause of psychological suffering. For example, the personal conception of Ultimate Reality (God or The Goddess) is inaccurate to a large extent. The concept of Ultimate Reality being singular (“All is One”) is far more accurate. The transcendence of BOTH the above concepts (non-duality) is excruciatingly accurate. However, none of these concepts is “The Truth” as such, since all ideas are relative, whilst The Truth is absolute. It is VITALLY important to distinguish between relative truth and Absolute Truth. Relative truth is temporal, mutable, subjective, dependent, immanent, differentiated, conditioned, finite, complex, reducible, imperfect, and contingent, whilst Absolute Truth is eternal, immutable, objective, independent, transcendent, undifferentiated, unconditional, infinite, simple, irreducible, perfect, and non-contingent. Absolute Truth is the ground of all being (“Brahman”, in Sanskrit), and is prior to any mind, matter, name, form, intent, thought, word, or deed. Good and bad are RELATIVE - what may be good or bad can vary according to temporal circumstances and according to personal preferences. For example, there is absolutely no doubt that citrus fruits are a good source of nutrients for human beings. However, it may be bad to consume such beneficial foods when one is experiencing certain illnesses, such as chronic dysentery. However, beyond the dichotomy of good and bad, is the Eternal Truth, which transcends mundane relativism. Therefore, the goal of life is to rise above the subjective “good” and “bad”, and abide in the transcendental sphere. A qualified spiritual preceptor is able to guide one in the intricacies of such transcendence. Such a person, who has transcended mundane relative truth, is said to be an enlightened soul. N. B. When making moral judgments, it is more appropriate to use the terms “holy/evil” or “righteous/unrighteous”, rather than “good/bad”. The ONLY truth in the phenomenal manifestation is the impersonal sense of “I am” ("ahaṃ”, in Sanskrit). Everything else is merely transient and unreal (“unreal” for that very reason - because it is ever-mutating, lacking permanence and stability). This sense of existence is otherwise called “Infinite Awareness”, “Spirit”, “God”, “The Ground of Being”, “The Higher Self”, as well as various other epithets, for it is the very essence of one’s being. If it is true that there are none so blind as those who don’t WANT to see, and none so deaf as those who don’t WANT to hear, then surely, there are none so ignorant as those who don’t WANT to learn the truth. OBVIOUSLY, in the previous paragraph, and in most other references to the word “truth” within this booklet, it is meant “the most accurate concept possible”, or at least ”an extremely accurate fact”. For example, as clearly demonstrated in Chapters 21 and 22, it is undoubtedly “true” that a divinely-instituted monarchy is the most beneficial form of national governance, but that is not the Absolute Truth, which is the impersonal, never-changing ground of all being. So, to put it succinctly, all “truths” are relative concepts (even if they are very accurate) but the Universal Self alone is REAL Truth. "In the absence of both the belief 'I am the body' and in the absence of the belief that 'I am not the body', what is left is what we really are. We don't need to define what we really are. We don't need to create a thought to tell us what we are. What we are is what TRUTH is." ************* "God is not something 'out-there', 'looking-in', but God (or Source) has BECOME all of This. So God is the Underlying Principle of all of this - the Energy or the Consciousness. The (psycho-physical) manifestation has arisen within Consciousness as an imagination in the mind of Source." Roger Castillo, Australian Spiritual Teacher, 15/07/2015. "I am the TRUTH..." ************* “...and the TRUTH shall set you free”. Lord Jesus Christ, John 14:6 & 8:32

If God, then I suspect God would rather us all be philosophers instead of living ready made answers without reason or justification. At the bottom of say moral philosophy you just might find a truth and a God, but having thought carefully about it you would even understand it well beyond a fearful, or blind believer.

You can't differentiate philosophy from religion by saying philosophy has nothing to do with God. Neither does the word religion. There are plenty of religions which don't believe in God. In truth, the word religion has no legitimate meaning. Scholars cannot agree on a definition which properly differentiates a religion from worldview. And a worldview is just a collection of philosophies.

This person should spend some time with the classic philosophers, and note that sophia doesn't mean knowledge at all. Religion is about rites and rituals, there is a whole pantomime of nonsense specific to each. Philosophers want to cut all the crap and find out what is actually true. Recognizing this truth is wisdom, living it is virtue.

You totally misunderstood theistic phylosophy . Is not just ,,God said so " It's what God tried to say to us . It's about understanding what and most importantly ,,WHY "God wants us to follow the universal moral standards . The answer is simple . It's for our own good . For us the moral laws are universal facts , no different than the fact that the Earth is round . If you don't follow the laws you will life in missery and pain . What you create that's what you get at the end . Doing evil is like starting a fire in a endless wooden house.......... You will get burned by the fire you yourself started . It's like your father telling you not to drink too much , so you don't't die . It's for your own good .

Religious people are just people who looks for a moral code to abide by. They morph into the con artistry the preachers and other believers give off and the dopamine they receive from socializing with other people in their religious castles push them further towards the religion. Only those of thorough intellect or just someone who uses their instincts, which the Bible says not to do, would be able to ask themselves… Why do I believe this? What do I believe? As humans we should follow the instinct of curiosity especially when we are talking about a religion. Considering people give their entire life to a religion. I feel as if we look at religion as something to give us our moral codes and tell us we are doing good. In reality, it’s all propaganda and con artistry; remember you believe because someone told you about it and they gave you no proof. Your only proof is a bible that’s been changing since it came out and stories that you hear and all of a sudden believe. If god were true he wouldn’t leave it up to us to choose whether to listen to another man when he does not allow us to hear him and if we do not we are shamed to hell. What kind of god, what kind of prophecy, what kind of lies are being taught?
