Mikaela, you should do more of these ranty videos, as you really seem to tap into the subconscious flow and the syntax of the rant is so entertaining ! :) Regarding us Finns being judgmental, I have to say we do have those people, but in general I think they're a minority, luckily. Here people just cant be arsed with what ppl around them are up to, pardon my French accent LOL. Coming from the business world, I have to say it is a good shift we are seeing - away from the "bragging how busy you are" and excelling in "looking busy while totally procrastinating at your desk" more into calm organizing and time management that allows a reasonable work-life balance, which is really the key factor in happiness in life, tbh.

So youtube recommended me this video out of nowhere, but I am glad I watched it. Personally, I would define myself as some kind of agnostic. But I did religious studies as a minor subject in university, and spirituality in every form is very intriguing. My home region of Ostrobothnia has always seemed like an earthly manifestation of the protestant work ethic. I've also heard other Finns, and people from abroad, call it a "little America". It also has it's own "bible belt", centered around Pedersöre and Pietarsaari! With Laestadianism being especially popular. Can't say the spirit of the region was too compatible with my own values, which is why I don't live there anymore. I did get diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, hence I found the "rant" format of the video very relatable and the train of thought understandable! Cheers!

Brought up a few thoughts, as your videos often do. I find your videos rather intellectually stimulating. Regarding your psychological break, it makes sense it would happen here, I’ve heard they can happen after you’re in a safe place and have time to process, at least it seems like that to me. Obviously I can’t have any information or knowledge pertaining to yours and how true that is with you though 😂 Regarding being worried about religion being a taboo here, for Finns it’s not as much a taboo because of the topic but more because we don’t want to bother others. This was an interesting topic and as long as there isn’t any proselytizing, I can’t imagine any Finns would clutch their figurative pearls over it. Here it comes up but we feel as though our spirituality is much more of a personal connection and issue, than one that we should say out loud. As you said, more of a lead by example situation. We are also often rather afraid of pressuring other people or to put them in an awkward position, so religion is a topic we stay away from, especially regarding our own positions. For example, I felt very comfortable writing this comment, but I wrote about my experience with a church and left it out as that felt too taboo for me. I think you’d be surprised at the meaning of religion to many people here, it just is very foreign to how it is seen elsewhere. There is much more of a focus on leading a good life than on going to church, praying, reading or doing work for the church. Anyway it is much less of a guilt based system than I’ve seen a lot of places, though that does depend on the church and pastor. When I’ve visited churches abroad there seems to be much more of a focus on the church itself and what they are doing while here in Finland it is much more about things that might be going on in our lives. I suspect a great part of that might be due to the church tax, which means their cash flow is always secured, as long as people don’t leave the church. To clarify the church tax if anyone is unaware, in Finland, if you report that you are part of the church, the church can tax you, along with the regular tax, however it is not a government tax, but rather a tax that is provided by the government tax agency as a service. Rather hazy line I’m aware, but that’s how it’s justified here. I suspect the security of their funding allows them to focus much less on tithes, and generally guilting people to pay their penitence. I wonder how much finnish religion had been made to be how it is as a function of that system, or the general Finnish attitude towards anybody telling them how to live their lives. Thanks for the thought provoking content as always.

The behavioral differences exist within the finnish population between the east and the rest. At least from the finnish perspective, the carelian hospitality is known all over the country.

Finnish regional cultural differences mapped out on top of the ancient/old Finnish tribes. Ostrobothnians like myself are the bogans of Finland, Karelians the slavs, Savonians the Estuary English speakers or the used car salesmen, Tavastians the Inca, Finns proper the Irish. Finland-Swedish groups and Sami (and Gypsies) are another story.
@laurilehtiaho96189 күн бұрын
There is a real difference there, not only are Karelians known for their hospitality, they are more talkative and can even get loud - there is a world of difference between my relatives from my mother's side versus my father's side who are from Ostrobothnia

Yes the east vs west divide is a well known phenomenon and is seen to be largely caused by different agricultural social structures. There are some genetical differences as well (east vs west) which may explain some temperamental differences, too.

You have got good and healthy observations on things. I'm glad you decided to get distance from the environment which felt toxic for you. Our individual time on this planet is limited. It's up to you how you spend that time. Would you like to impress people which live in the same culture hoping they'll praise your existence and name or would you rather do things quiet and try to manage your own life also securing others...or maybe trying to take as less responsibility as you can and let others (the community) do the job for you for their needs. I am an atheist living in Finland and haven't got a burden with religious communities. However I feel like I am a good person with high morale standards. I'm sure Finland's lutheric religion culturally has made an impact with my upbringing since I'm never late and I'm very hard working also trying to do my best for others. But you don't need to belong to some religious community for it...not christian, muslim, jewish or any of the hundreds of religion identities that exist on this planet. I am spiritual but it's not any written dogma in the books which communities follow. My views are very earthly watching the sky and stars and nature getting those whoah moments. I freaking love science. I hope you have got a good journey ahead of you and I hope you have had good time here in my motherland which I love very much 🥰

After Nokia's situation became difficult, he committed suicide at his home in Espoo on December 11, 1988."" Money does not mean all is ok. Money won't quarantee that you don't get a deadly disease. Some Finns behave as they have just been dragged from a forest. In December this year had a dinner with my family in one of restaurants in Tallinn, there were a group women speaking Finnish and yelling so loudly as it looked like a horse stable was nearby. When they come to saunas and pools (often heavenly drunk) it likely turns into a nightmare for other visitors.

Funny thing is that I have had this kind of experience with at least russian tourists, german tourists, english tourists, israelis.. its almost as if every nationality has good people, bad people, loud people, quiet people, all kinds!
@miesvaillanykyisyytta325210 күн бұрын
So the worst thing they did was speak loudly. Do you know how many criminals from Estonia come to Finland from Estonia every day or how Russians are known to escalate verbal conflicts into violence, drive irresponsibly, cut in line or otherwise cause trouble? That is known internationally and it was even taught to me by my native born Russian language teacher. Finland is one of the best behaved nations in the world, the nation that lifted Estonia up when they broke free from Soviet oppression and still continue to fund Estonia with tourism while Russia is way behind and the bad areas of Estonia are known to be teaming with Russians. I'm not saying that most Russians are bad but I just had to point out some facts to people who might be reading comments and do not know better.
@kodvo110 күн бұрын
As an older finn, I never want to go to Estonia or Swedis ships because those are full of loud and drunken people. Just small group of finns, not mainly, and all nations have those. Russians are more group people and they society is totally different, unstable and do not know what happens, can not freely say thinkings, man mostly dies alcohol, brutal law, no democracy so on. Everything opposite than Finland, background totally different. Usually finns are honest and can trust, like another skandinavian countryes. More far You go, more cheating. Yes, we mainly do not speak nonsens to fill the gaps and firstly we try to solve who do we talk to. But later can talk a lot and straight and someone keep it cruel but it just honest. Mainly not religious or keep forest and nature our religion. Some sayed: -Western european works to live, Americans live to work. And Your occupation, sallary, property, profession can be here a bragging. Be Yourself, thats important.
