The audio quality in my earliest videos such as this one was always rough, but you’ll notice that it’s especially bad in the beginning of this video, particularly for the first 30 seconds and from about 1:40-2:48. The reason for this is that unfortunately, due to a copyright claim, I had to use KZbin to mute the background music for parts of these first couple of minutes of this video, which resulted in that bad audio. You can still understand what I’m saying though, and it goes away after those parts, so if you want to watch the video then just bear with it for the beginning or skip through it. This is without doubt one of my worst videos though, so no real harm in skipping it, hahaha.

Neferpitou's skill, Terpsichora, is derived from the name of a Greek mythology figure, Terpsichore. She is one of the nine Muses and she is the muse of dance and chorus. That's why Pitou says, "Exceed your limit and dance" when she activates the skill. Feitan's name is also derived from Phaeton. In Greek mythology, he is the son of the sun god, Helios. That explains why his ultimate skill is called "Rising Sun." Phinx is very self-explanatory. You can clearly see on his costume.

I think that it's fascinating that Togashi can implement religious ideas into his work without beating his viewer's over the head with it. Religion and subtlety don't always mix, and while I won't dismiss the potential in a heavily religious story, I feel like subtlety works best in most cases, because if you make a reference to any religion that someone has no knowledge of, they're not going to get it. In the case of Hunter x Hunter, I could watch the entire series and lose nothing contextually about it - I don't have to study religion in order to enjoy the show. However, knowing about those elements is rewarding, as it adds depth to the thematic goals of each arc in Hunter x Hunter (especially the Chimera Ant arc).
@TheOooMat5 жыл бұрын
a heavily religious story that is good is, well, the bible for one. There are strong stories told throughout with many themes, messages, and wordplay partly lost through the reader not knowing Hebrew, but to truly appreciate it one must learn much. I just finished a college class on the Old Testament and it is a fantastic source of knowledge. There are many other stories such as the Mahabharata of krishna and Journey to the West that are overtly religious yet fantastic stories/groups of stories. I recommend Journey to the West highly as it is fun and easy to read even without knowing Chinese and Chinese culture.

a good video once again +Alczandxr. although since you mentioned "Killua's Enlightenment" I'd like to mention something that I myself saw: up until the end of the Chimera ant arc, Killua never thought of himself, only his friends. before Killua met Gon, the idea of having a friend was so out of reach to him, that he treasured it all the more, but overcompensated as he was so desperate not to loose it. that is why he would constantly put himself through some really hard situations for his friends without complaint or questions, and not even wanting the to know what he did for them. a prime example is his fight with Rammot, where in order to prevent Rammot from reaching Gon, Killua fights him for hours, and fights his own natural instincts to run as the fight is completely one sided against him until the very end. meanwhile, Gon is blissfully unaware of Killua's suffering, and is busy goofing around with a Yandere who is almost twice his age. but I noticed a very subtle change during the final battle, at the beginning, Gon treats Killua coldly, and Killua just takes it passively out of fear of loosing Gon, and when Gon turns on Killua, instead of defending himself, Killua blames himself for being unable to alleviate his friends suffering, and tries to keep up a string front for Gon's sake until he eventually breaks down. but after the Chimera ant arc is over, when Gon is dying in the hospital, and Killua is preparing to set out to find Alluka so she can save him, and Killua gives a monologue where at the end he finally shouts out loud "im gonna heal you up, so you have to apologize!" that was a big moment for me! Killua while being incredibly mature about his anger at Gon, hasn't given up on him, and never will, but also, that he is finally starting to acknowledge his own self-worth, and that he wont be taken for granted anymore! and he is going to ask Gon to give him the bare minimum of what he owes him, in this case, it being an apology. anyways, thats just my interpretation of it.

That's a pretty succinct summary of Killua's character arc. It really is a beautiful developmental journey that he experiences, capped off with the whole Alluka/Nanika situation. It's actually one of my favourite arcs in the series and I more or less agree with your interpretation. Now I was never planning on going into that much depth on Killua for this specific video since that wasn't really the point and I was saving it for the future, but perhaps I don't need to do a Killua analysis and I'll just point anyone interested to this comment ;)

Sasuke wasn't part of the character cast at the start of the project. He does feel shoehorned in a bit as well.

hi, this is a translation from google trad '. I don't know enough English to explain my point of view. Nanika and Alluka refers to the Djinn in the Arab-Muslim mythology and even more with the count of 1001 nights. Like the jinns, Nanika is able to grant wishes, but in return for a tribute. In the 1001 nights, the first jinn in history threatens to kill the one who released him from his mud prison in exchange for a wish. In Aladdin's tale, The latter steals a djinn's lamp from a wizard, by my cunning. And thanks to the jinn and the wish, he marries the princess and succeeds in having a second jinn after having won a second wizard. Killua having succeeded in delivering his sister from his family, without fighting them but by using the rules and conditions of the capacities of Nanika (djinn) allows to escape from the house of zoldick and thus to save Alluka (princess). But he is also chased by his enlightened brother who wants to control Alluka and Nanika. But Killua wins against his brother using Nanika's powers. Killua decided to protect Nanika as he does with Alluka. So, killua, instead of getting a second jinn, he gets a second little sister to protect.

On a side note, Killua's badge during the Hunter exam is 99. 9 symbolises suffering and torture in Japan. Also, 9+9= 18, 1+8= 9. Killua is known for having been tortured mentually and physically all his life. And later he fails the exam after facing a family member.

Gyro got eaten but he escaped as a Chimera ant, it was shown in the manga that even the narrator/wall of text said Gyro and Gon will eventually meet up in the future..the anime cut that part, Gyro devotion to cause suffering to humanity is so strong that when he became a Chimera ant he just walked out instead of serving/protecting the queen

8:49 but even if Knov and Welfin initially submitted to fear of that higher power, they later still chose to defy that power, with Knov still covertly helping out like saving Shoot, or when Welfin defiantly said he will only follow Giro

True, and good point, but it doesn't change their initial reaction and the parallels it brought about.

Aleczandxr hey love your channel, love ur vids! Certainly, but I'm pointing out that this could also be another example of philosophical symbolism, in this case the rejection of God ala Nietsche, with characters who choose humans over the ant Jesus. Togashi saturated the series with religious parallels so I think it's reasonable that he would have shown the modern subversions of them , i interpreted knov and meruems defiance as an example of this trend of secularism and humanism.

I think Buddah's journey to Nirvanna is kinda simmular to Killua's escape from his family.
@ls-ip6ed4 жыл бұрын
i agree that's a good catch. of the three journey's, killua's escape was definitely a lot easier to immediately sympathize with from a Western perspective than Siddharta's or Ging's, since his family was the way they were, even though I try to let my personal beliefs about family go when examining all of their characters (I still have a hard time liking ging at all lol)
@lam-ben-yam40154 жыл бұрын
The royal guards map onto the three deadly poisons of Buddhism. Youpi is dvesha (hatred) as his abilities revolve around his rage and also versions of his design occasionally incorporate a snake - the animal symbolic of this poison. Pitou is representative of raga (attachment) as her abilities revolve around controlling, preserving, and protecting others - basically holding on to her attachments and resisting against their impermanence. Shaiapouf is moha (delusion) which is pretty self-explanatory since he is fighting constantly against the reality of Meruem's humanity - it's also pretty ironic because moha sometimes gets translated as 'ignorance' instead and it's symbol is a pig whilst Shaiapouf contrasts this by being sophisticated and elegant; perhaps this could be seen as him deluding himself about his true nature even further.

Also maybe Meruem is Mara then.

great work! we some times do not know why we love something so much as we do. the touchings of religious symbolism. which are integral parts of the collective unconscious in our society and culture, provide the unconscious door way to our true conscious enjoyment in this story. again,... nice work. personally i have been hung up on the necessary characteristics ( in the chimar ant arc) for which the post rebirth the self was able to have access to past life memories for the characters. tougashi probably set everything up as such as it went so the story would work. but it would be an interesting philosophical undertaking to see what characteristics in life merited life after death memory instill-ment. again, nice work.

Here's something I think you missed: I didn't realize it until you mentioned that Meruem had a sort of Holy Communion after the bomb (with the servants experiencing the ecstasy), but Meruem's entire end is filled with Christian (Catholic) symbolism. When Netero bombed him, in the manga it was written to not underestimate human capability for evil, but it was pronounced as evolution. So Netero would have said, "Do not underestimate human capability for evolution," but he meant to not underestimate their capability for evil. Then, this evil, or sin, kills Meruem. He is only brought back by the sacrifice of his guards and the Communion. He is brought back to life a changed ant, full of life, but still has to face the poisoning effects of the human evil, or sin, so his natural body dies still from the effects of that sin (like original sin or how the wager of sin is death).

Perhaps I am reading too much into this, but I noticed that the new Kite was wearing all black like a priest when hearing the confession. Likewise, there were a lot of images of old-fashioned wooden furniture in that scene which gives the same kind of ambience that those old fashioned wooden confession booths would give.

About your note on how Alluka's power was written, I initially thought she was randomly overpowered too, but wasn't it confirmed in the Japanese release of volume 33 that Nanika is from the dark continent and so may be connected to the calamities in some way? I believe there was a picture of Nanika with text that translates to "originating from the dark continent" beside her on one of the manga's special pages. Anyways, I absolutely love your content dude - keep up the excellent work! Liked, faved and subbed ^_^
@Aleczandxr8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subbing, I'm really glad you enjoyed! :) About Alluka - my gripe was never with HOW she obtained that power (as you say, it seems like she was from the Dark Continent) but how it seems to revert any consequence, both physical and psychological, from Gon. It's hard to say at this point as we haven't seen much of Gon in the manga lately, but while he did have his Nen stripped from him, he is re-learning about Nen at the moment. If he has some sort of impairment with regards to Nen once he gets it back then I'd be happy, but if he gets it back and is basically back to the way he was with regards to power before the transformation, I'd think it takes away from the gravity of the transformation. I'd also like to see Togashi delve into Gon's mindset and see the psychological effects that the event has had on him, but that's for the future.
@Pinkie3Point141598 жыл бұрын
Ah I see what you mean now. Yeah that's a great point actually; I'd definitely like to see more of the effects of the transformation on Gon and his Nen since that's really not the kind of event that should be totally consequence-free, haha. Some sort of Nen impairment sounds like it could be pretty interesting. Damn, I guess it's back to waiting for more story then :P
