You found your refractory cement?! Good! I have been watching Ragnarok on Netflix with Jarrod. I'm going to need you to make me a Thor hammer lol!🤣

I need to do this with my rivet forge, it’s starting to get some holes in the bottom

I assume the next video might be to make a reproduction rivet-catching bucket. And maybe you can add a link to some of the old videos showing iron workers throwing hot rivets. After seeing Ed's video, I predict a resurgence of this lost art.

Im wanting to make my own design and im wondering if i can line it with fire brick and sand? Ya think it would work? My blower doesnt mount like this one. Its the same concept but is parallel to the fire pot and cranked from the top. I was thinking makjng my base, then lining with fire brick and sand then dropping my firebowl in and piping my blower in like that

I think the fire brick would work, don’t know about the sand. I’m assuming that you are using the sand as a base and the fire brick will fit together tightly. The problem is that the fire brick is not very durable over the long run. My gas forge has a dense fire brick floor cut to fit with no mortar, but does require replacement now and then. The refractory cement seems to last longer in the little coal forge. I am no expert for sure and and still learning. There are many recipes out there for forge lining but the refractory cement seems to work best for me. Look for a local boiler repair company as a supplier for the cement. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project.

No forge needs to be “ lined” .Your fire is in the fire pot. My all steel coke forge with coke fire pot has been in use for 20 years no lining. You only need to line a forge if it’s built from a combustible material. Stop lining your metal forges and you will have more room for your coke or coal. Think about it…..Fire in a Fire Pot not on the supporting metal. Forges are consumables even at that it will out live us by many years……Steve

The reason I lined this forge pan is because it was cast into the pan “clay forge before use”. I do appreciate your info on the subject, always learning.
