Welcome back to Cloninger’s Garage. This video will be about reloading the .223/5.56. I will be using Hornady 73g ELDM bullets on top of CFE223 powder; starting with 26g then 26.5g and finally 27g. I will be looking at velocities out of this load. I hope to reach 2800 fps out of my Tikka t3x 22.5” barrel.
**Please be advised that the velocities are not correct due to improper placement of the chronograph. I got a new chronograph in order to present more accurate results.**
Actual FPS for Hornady 73g ELDM over 25g CFE 223 was avg. of 2809. **taken with new Garmin Xero C1 Pro**
Loaded up 100 Hornady 73g ELDM over 26g CFE 223 and got an average of 2978 for 49 shots. (Garmin Xero C1 Pro) Very good groups, but did not get targets due to it being a public range.

I normally find that the factory seconds are.....sometimes accurate lol. I mean they are seconds so that means something is wrong with them. Normally with factory seconds with poly tips, it's the tip that's wonky. Shooting these at hot loads will never make them accurate, you will have to lower the speed a bit to make them seconds poly tip bullets accurate. I have factory seconds 77gr bthp and 88gr eld. Used the 77gr in my 16inch AR-15 and I can do 1 inch groups at 100 when I lower my velocities a bit. I use the 88gr in my 22arc and I find it more accurate with lower velocities also. I'm using vithavouri n140 powder in both calibers

Lol my man that is literally the hottest load I have ever seen anyone load as 5.56, because you're way out of the realm of .223 1728 foot pounds of energy is like 300 above the spiciest of spicy loads.

as stated in the description these velocities are incorrect, but they are still hot loads

@CloningersGarage ok that makes more sense, because I can't really imagine how you get 20% extra power when the max loads for 5.56 are at or near 100% case capacity already and thats a long bullet.

More than likely you have too slow a twist rate in your barrel .

Rifle is great! It could be me shooting bad or it simple doesn't like CFE223. Check out the groups from my AA2495 video. CFE223 works great in my Gas Guns.
