You all kill it… I’m in the middle of a relocation job and had zero idea where to start. You have truly saved the day! Thank you!!!

Had to change the wiring harness for the license plate light. This video helped me gain access to the connectors.

I like your videos when you are more serious with less acting. I appreciate them either way. Thank you

I appreciate that!

FYI the larger harness at the top of the hatch houses the wiring for the camera and lic plate light wires. Cut there and tap the new harness there and run it the camera bracket and you're done.

Hey You Two, Thank You for taking the time to make this video. I helped my friend Garett install a C4 bumper on his 5th Gen 4runner and we used your video to learn how to relocate his reverse camera. I have a KZbin channel called "Timmy the Toolman" that I run with my buddy Sean and we mostly work on 3rd Gen 4runners. We shot a video of this whole install which was a lot of work because it included doing the camera relocation and powering the license plate light. In the video, I will be mentioning your channel to thank you guys for doing the advance work for us for the camera relocation. I will also put a link to your channel in our video description. Even with your video, it was still a lot of work but you guys took the guesswork out which was super helpful. At this point, our video install of his C4 bumper will be 2 parts, maybe even 3. When they are live, I'll send you guys a message so you can check them out. Take care and Happy Wrenching!

Thanks!!! We're so very happy our video was helpful and thanks for linking us! Maybe we can get together some time and share ideas.

Good rule of thumb, test the camera before putting everything back together. I like your honesty. Some people try and sugar coat installs and make it seem like it’s a walk in the park.

Could I use this same method of panel removal to just replace the back up camera?
@afgjoeable4 жыл бұрын
$299 just for the wire?!?! You can get better camera than Toyota itself for half a price. I love the idea since I was looking to do something like this on my 2019 4runner. But I guess I'm going with mirror rearview camera front and back. Great video as always

What did you to to make the hatch door handel to work again? After disconnecting, then reconnecting the connections inside the door, the handel doesn't want to open the door...?
@WanderlostOverland2 жыл бұрын
Ours works just fine. Maybe yours isn't making a proper connection.

I think Im going to try and find where the camera wires run into the cab and splice into it there. Seems easier then fishing the cable into the hatch, just to splice into a cable that goes right back out of the hatch.

Hi Merri and Mark! Great video as always! It was great to meet you both in person today! Your 4Runner looks even cooler in real life too! Hope to see you at the next outing in September. Max in a silver GX

1. You should post the tools you use or links where to get them. 2. What kits did you purchase for the camera AND the license plate lighting? 3. What camera mount is that you bolted to the bumper? Thanks.

How do you find that the backup camera works now? do you find it to be as accurate as mounted from the factory? Great instructional video.

Thanks for watching the video! The camera works great. The lines on the screen are off a little but you adjust to it quickly.

That stupid little grommet on the hatch!!! Took me a good hour to get the wire fished through there. Thanks for all the good videos.
@fredwest53965 жыл бұрын
Did you have to lengthen the camera wires?
@WanderlostOverland5 жыл бұрын
No, the new extension wire harness is a simple plug-n-play.
@stevenyounger3 жыл бұрын
How in the name of all that is holy did you fish The wire from the top right or left corner of the hatch down into the lower part of the hatch where the speakers are mounted?? I've been at this for 48 hours and I cannot make it work. I tried using one of the rubber plugs slightly closer to the middle but then the wiring interferes with the motion of the rear window. I'm at a loss

My friend, it isn't easy at all. I feel your pain right now. In the video we make it look easy through careful editing. Reality was it took me a looong time and I got completely frustrated with it. One piece of advice: if I remember right, there's two different paths through the hatch. One leads to a dead end. Good luck, you'll get it!

Great how to, a thought. I think it would be better if you bought the camera from a junkyard that way you don't have to do so much disassembly.
@WanderlostOverland6 жыл бұрын
Cool idea, but you would still have to disassemble to connect it.
@DuanDao6 жыл бұрын
@@WanderlostOverland I realized that after I posted, then I thought is there another way to possibly splice wire so you can avoid all that disassembly. I wonder if that cable connects back to the head unit 🤔

Merri, your face at 7:29 Priceless!!!! Mark, well done Sir.. A very detailed, video. Even the lighting was spot on!! As it seemed like a PITA, but I am sure it was mostly "Time Consuming"... I know, other people post DIY vids on this platform and while their explanation is great, their lighting is CRAPPY to say the least... 15:40 Merri always steels the show hahah!!!
