"Automatic for the people" is the CD that was found in the greenhouse where he died. Probably the last music Kurt ever heard.

Mike Mills is playing it upside down because it is Kurt Cobain's guitar who was left handed. Mike Mills is right handed and had to flip the gutiar in order to play.

I love Rem and I know I'm gonna sound daft, but how do the lyrics relate to Cobain ? Is the song so evidently a tribute ? Do people only know that because they stated so in interviews ? Can someone explain ?
@stonecutter29 жыл бұрын
didier genin So anything is speculative unless taken straight from the artists' mouths, but nevertheless speculating on lyrics is what people tend to do. Anyhow, the references that most jump out to me are "I only wish that I could hear you whisper down, Mister fisherman, to a less peculiar ground." Kurt in his suicide note called himself a sad little sensitive unappreciative Pisces Jesus man. The pisces astrological sign is associated with fish. Perhaps he is Mister fisherman, that Stipe wants to hear whisper down to him? Also, "I had a mind to try and stop you" is fairly obvious. I don't think the ENTIRE set of lyrics continually references Kurt, however the song has references in it that seem to make sense. I don't consider you daft at all by the way, as I said - these things are speculative and some speculate...and some perhaps don't. I know that Stipe and Cobain, based on interviews I've seen, were considering a collaboration...and it was imminently to start, but Kurt called it off. Stipe wishes he could have just gotten together with Cobain and just had a good time, seen if he could have gotten Kurt to let him in, to let him think beyond what he was dealing with at the time (now I'm not saying this was word for word, but from what I recall of an interview).
