I'm only 27 and this music came out when I was a young kid. These guys are one of the most underrated groups of all time. I think anyone who considers themselves a lover of all music must rate REM among the elite. A truly unique style and sound that is breathtaking and inspiring every time I listen. Their music sends your mind on a winged journey, soaring over God's beautiful creation. Stipe's passion is undeniable. There will never be another REM; as special as the likes of the Beatles.

Does he ever put less than 100% emotion into every performance of every song he sings??? The guy will become a Saint.

As a longtime fan I'd have to agree with you. There's something special about that song. The melody simply lifts you and takes you to another place. Its been years since that song's release and I've played it hundreds of times. I still get chills every time I listen to it or play and sing it on my guitar.

I still have my REM pin that I had on my backpack in college. Those were such amazing times musically-REM, Husker Du, the Replacements, Jesus and Mary Chain, and on and on. Every year got progressively better for music until late 90's when the boy bands hit up til now.

WOW. I remember watching this actual broadcast in early '91. I was feeling awful. I was dealing with a break up of a long-term relationship and my Dad had just died a few weeks before. I remember watching this this just... lifted me. What a great song. Thanks for posting.

I don't know which one of them is the best. But I agree with you, they are my two most favourite REM songs. You can't surpass these two songs.

This song is hauntingly beautiful. It is so rare to come across a song which is both a lovely musical composition and a great lyrical piece. The cadence of Stipe's voice completes the trifecta!

A somber beauty. It reminds me of a particularly dreary time in my life, on a bus, looking at the NYC skyline on an overcast day.
The first cassette I ever listened to (that wasn't the Lion King Soundtrack) was REM's "Out of Time" when I was 4 or 5 years old.
