with my remarkable 1 I always feel like a most advanced sumerian scribe with his clay tablet... a great servant and companion...

Still love my ‘1’! Worst aspect by far though is battery consumption during sleep. It’s so bad that I have to turn the device fully off every time I stop using it. Apart from that, it works great.

I have this model too. It was so good I didn't upgrade. Still works perfectly and holds a charge well. The pen has yellowed a little but still works as it did new.

Thank you for this revisit. I own a remarkable 1. For a good 3 years now. I love It. I am waiting for the next generation remarkable 3 or 4 maybe . Where the difference is significant and warrants a change.

Hello, I purchased my RM1 in 2018 and still use it almost every day with software V 3.0 … it replaces paper notebooks in my everyday life since I purchased it and I never got any problem with it … it still satisfies my needs. I also have an iPad Pro 10.5 … which still operates perfectly, but does not provide the same Paperlike sensation even with a Paperlike screen protector. What ever the Notetaking App. What will I do if my RM 1 gets unusable ? I will hesitate between a RM2 and a new iPad …. May be I will prefer the iPad price and performance wise … Thanks for your very professional and comprehensive videos 👍 Erick France

The RM1. The very first e-ink tablet I ever owned. It also holds a very special place in my heart. I still use it but not as much anymore. My devices are now the Max Lumi 2 (what a powerful eink device!) and the Tab Ultra (simply amazing!). Thanks for the RM1 review.

Still using the Remarkable 1 here as well. I find it great for reading epub and pdf files and use it for taking notes for work. The biggest issue with buying it used would be the non-replaceable battery. While it is not constantly plugged in for charging, eventually the battery life will decline.

I still have my RM1 since its first release all them years ago as you mention. I'd pre-ordered it on 1st Feb 2017 for $379. I mostly use it now for writing for things like quick to do lists and the like, as I got the Max Lumi (one) since it first launched which I use for reading and everything else (including plenty of more serious writing and note taking) not least given that RM1 has no front light. I'm having lots of issue with sync on the RM1, and having to resort to using USB and "web interface" to copy pdfs to it. Not sure why, the issue is still there even after I'd freed up about 1 Gigabyte, it still reports sync failures and I'm unable to push documents to it using the desktop app like I normally used to. Owning the RM1 has been a very frustrating experience, and I feel really disappointed with how reMarkable badly treated its early adopters. Their lack of responsiveness to feedback, no matter how measured and considerate, was beyond arrogant, so much so it felt like boarder line contemptuous and insulting. I cannot see myself ever again purchasing any products from reMarkable in the future, not even if they somehow become the best at whatever it is they market their products as. I'm really glad there is so much more choice for consumers now out there on the market, so no one will have to feel as disappointed like I had for so many years until Boox come onto the scene.

I still use mine after 3 years. Never really used it as a reader. I'm impressed that they've kept it up to date with the same operating system. Battery life it a pain but, generally, I'm just journalling for half an hour every evening* with it these days and it lasts a week between charges. The slowness, for just writing, isn't really a problem. If I had a reMarkable 2, then I'm sure I'd feel the pain!! :) Interesting that the writing is more paperlike and comfortable. I've been eyeing up a remarkable 2 recently... sounds like I don't really need it right now. * I stopped using for work and returned to a 'bujo' style A5 notepad now. It's easier to review previous days and the size fits much better on my desk with my keyboard. But I miss the digital backup, being able to read on screen with the companion app. I wonder if My Deep Guide have any interest in any of the smart notepads, like Moleskine Smart? As when Remarkable was new, I can't find any decent reviews online of it, or any other similar systems. You've set the bar for reviews too high :)

I bought the rM and then bought the rM2 when it came out. I use the devices in 2 different contexts & that works fine for me. No problems with either device so far. Simple to operate.

I own both reMarkable 1 and 2. Actually I have recently rediscovered rM 1 too. I kind of love its writing feel more than rM 2. (yes i'm from writing on paper. and bought the selling point of reMarkable which is 'paperlike e-note'). Only things I miss are the lack of physical eraser and the thickness. Wait! You once compared the thickness of rM1 and rM2 😂. That video was so impressive that I ended up subscribing your channel.

I bought a RM1 second hand some years ago. When the RM2 came out I ordered one but sent it back since the RM1 was still good enough for me (didn't notice much difference in everyday use).

That was fun Voja! I have followed you for a few months and you keep surprising me. However, you should know you are quite demanding, Voja! and I like that, because with your tough and brave reviews you are literally taking to task all these corporations. After some expectation, I was so disappointed with the K-Scribe that I returned it after a month. In my opinion: too heavy for reading, clumsy for notes, and unpredictable for pdf's. But listening to your reviews, if someone needed now an e-ink tablet, seemingly only the SuperNote (A5X in my case) would be worth your money.., and it'll be a good amount of money!. Should one wait for Lenovo's Smart Note then? Will they get it right? Or as of today, get a used rM1? Thanks!

Well, we don't even know the release dat for Lenovo as of yet, and there are plenty of interesting device to come out, so waiting is a smart thing to do, or buying a cheap second hand until to use until you make up your mind on wether or not you need an e-ink device, want it, and if so, which one will be the best for your needs.

One other advantage/difference over the 2 - it supports USB OTG, so keyboard support in my case. It makes for a great distraction free writing environment.

@@ameb7316 Not through the USB port it doesn’t. You can do it with some hardware hacking via the pogo pins, but that’s messy at best.

I still using my rm1 for taking notes and consulting construction drawings. I was thinking about a new device like boox air2+, but when I´m on the construction side I need most of all taking notes. To use other funktionalities at work f.e. boox air2+ doesn´t really offer enough to use it with efficience. The other point is the weight. Seems to be just a little difference but when you have it all the time on your hand you will note it! By the way: In my opinion your planer has to many different possibilities to take notes: Quarter, month, week, days ... I don´t have a overview about all and I don´t know where I have to look to not forget somethink. When I make a note on the month side I can´t see it when I go to the weeks or days. I´m not sure if I explane it well, but it is a little bit what we call "one single point of truth" in our construction models or BIM planing.

I own an RM1, and it is a device I want to love, but sadly I just never managed to integrate it into my daily life. I still take it out occasionally to play around with it. I kind of like the minimalist UX, which I find to be quite intuitive. If only it supported gmail, I could really see myself reaching for it on a daily basis, just for email. I too wish it could be rotated 180 degrees, with the buttons up top.

I use my rM1 everyday for work and I cannot imagine being without it. If I could replace the battery then I would use it forever. Seriously, it is a plastic device with no moving parts- it should last centuries. If there there an economical way of replacing the batteries cheaply the Remarkable should offer a discount for people returning rM1s and then sell the refurbished units at cost to undercut competitors.

With Remarkable 3 almost upon us, unless you can find R 1 for well under $100 and simply want to try it out save your money for the 2 or wait for the 3. Until then buy a pad and some folders. Good review of what is now old tech.

Hi Voja, I’d like an in depth analysis on the privacy management of data in the ebooks. Remarkable is a Norwegian company, ca we trust other companies based in China? Where are the servers that collect our data?

Well then you have no problems, as when you choose a US or a EU server on a Boox or a Supernote device, your data is stored on one of those servers :)
