Did this - works great on the Remarkable 2, but the templates aren't showing up in the desktop app.... just blank paper background. Any solve this issue?

I can't get the RCU to load. I am operating Windows 11. Is that the issue? On the reMarkable Connection Utility screen, even tho' it's saying "connected reMarkable", it's also saying backup/restore is incompatible with RM2. Here's what is on the code page...no rmpkgs detected (find: /home/root/.rmpkg: No such file or directory)

Can I create my own templates in Affinity Designer or publisher and export it as a png? Or is the whole process easier now in 2.7? I ordered my remarkable and can't wait. Hi! Thank you for your support and yes 1000 subscribers one day 😀. Yes David Remmel's application makes it super easy to upload your own templates. The RCU allows PNG (raster) and SVG (vector) image templates @ 1404 x 1872 pixels to be uploaded. I'm not familiar with Affinity designer or publisher however if you can export (or even save as) your template as PNG or SVG you are ready to go! I don't think reMarkable will be releasing custom templates yet, not in 2.7 sadly. Look forward to hearing about how you get on with your remarkable and very pleased that my tutorial(s) are useful. Hello, is your reMarkable in Dark Mode? It appears to be in the beginning while you were in settings for password etc.. Is there a Dark Mode setting? I know there's templates for notebooks and such, but what about system settings?

Once I have templates created using RCI can I send them to others or do we all need RCU to add templates to our reMarkables?

Hi Jordan, great question. Without getting too complicated I believe the RCU is the cleanest and simplest option to add your own custom templates. I recommend the latter where you create your .png template, share with your friends and they upload using the RCU. Cheers

Mac will not allow me to open the utility because they do not know the developer.

Hi @Karlie Morash, when that window opens click cancel. Do the following. Open System Preferences -> Click Security & Privacy -> General tab (bottom left unlock the padlock and enter admin user/password) and select “App store and identified developers” radio button. Then close the padlock. Go back to the RCU icon and open it. This time the window that opens should have the option to “Open” and the “Connection Dialog’ window will appear. Good luck!

What happen when you get the "Compatibility Warning" on the Notebook/Template/Wallpaper sections of the RCU? I'm scared to load as is says forcefully loading may corrupt the tablets data!

@Chris Herring, the last time I experienced this was when I upgraded to v2.6.2.75. I was concerned to read the warnings too so I emailed Davis (see section ii.3 Defect Reporting in manual) and he said - "It is safe to bypass RCU's warnings with r2021.001 and system software 2.6.2.75. I've published a new compatibility table today which addresses this, which you may fetch from RCU's About Pane - 26/3/21." In summary, firstly I would click "Fetch Compatibility" the RCU about pane. If there is an available update it will ask you to restart the RCU and if he's done an update to address the new version the warnings will no longer appear. If in doubt email Davis to tell him what version of the rM2 software you have and send him the "forcefully loading" screen. He will be able to tell you if its safe or not. Ps. I've disabled the auto updates partly because of the RCU but mainly because I want the DDVK hack to be in sync as I can't live without it. Goodluck! Chris

I simply create a PDF and upload it into the tablet as my template.

PDFs are the easiest to make, only downside is that you can’t delete/add/move pages which is only important of your workflow requires this. Thanks for sharing. Chris

I keep getting the "Connection unsuccessful" I have triple checked IP and Password and all is accurate. Any ideas?

Hi @Dave Richards, there have been three cases where I've had "Connection unsuccessful": 1. I wasn't connected to wi-fi, try going to the connection settings and ensure you are actually connected so that the wi-fi icon is solid and doesnt have a cross through it. 2.Even though my saved settings on the RCU said 123.345.6.78 for example, when I actually went to check the settings on the rM2 the IP had changed. Even though I was convinced it was the same. 3. Capslock! If all else fails try connecting using 10.11.99.1 Goodluck! Chris

Hi @Darren Kidger, I haven’t had any issues. You can Google “how to add an exception to Windows Defender” if you are not having any joy.
