I saw a docu about Kansas. Brian May said that when they met Kansas, they were so tight and polished. Just from spending a couple of years on an old school bus driving around Kansas, playing every dive that they could.

I was in junior high and high school during this time (70's), and I was so impressed with Steve Walsh! Great voice! I studied his vouce for hours and hours at a time! I was the singing, guitar/violin/piano playing kid & teenager and I was obsessed with Kansas when they emerged on the scene! I LOVE Steve Walsh!

The guitarist wearing the shirt with no sleeves played the piano while the verses were being sung; and the one in the white tux did the acoustic guitar during the verses. Lead singer played organ, bongos and sang.

@@ffjsb The band was never "all Christians." None of them were Christians at the time this song was recorded. Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope became Christians. Steve Walsh left the band over not wanting to sing the lyrics Livgren wrote after his conversion. None of the other band members proclaimed they were Christian. Livgren and Hope left the band and new versions of Kansas have used them as "guests" at times.

Mr. Hair is Robby Steinhardt and he's a monster violin player. Just so happens that this piece doesn't have a violin part so he looks like he doesn't do much besides vocals (and tambourine, apparently) but he's a huge part of the unique Kansas sound.

Walsh was not going to be lead vocals. While laying some tracks at a local place in Kansas, everyone went to lunch, except Walsh. He just hung out in the studio and was just belting out there songs. When everyone came back, the engineer realized that he had left a tape on recording. He ran it back and hit play. He called the band in to see who this was on tape. They looked around and figured that it could only be Steve Walsh, they didn't know that he could sing like that.

The days when talent was all that was important, not looks not style, not gimmicks. The days before auto tune, the days when true talent was admired not how cute the singer was. It was all about being real and to say that we were blessed to have grown up being exposed to these talented people is a given. Auto tune SUCKS! Steve Walsh on keyboards and vocals, Rich Williams (Tuxedo guy) on guitar, Robbie Steinhardt on vocals and violin, Dave Hope on bass, Kerry Livgren on keyboards and guitar, and Phil Ehart on drums. Rich and Phil are the only 2 remaining originals left in the current lineup. They have new singers that are really amazing as well.

Kansas is my favorite band.. I've seen them at least six times.. twice in the front row.. Steve Walsh, the guy that plays piano🎹 and sings, Share's lead vocal role with the guy with all the hair, Robbie steinhart Who also plays violin🎻 They are an incredible live band. They are still together today with only two original members Rich williams, the guy in the tuxedo🎸.. And drummer🥁 Phil Ehart, but still sound great. You should definitely check out more of that music🤗

The "Beard Mane" dude (Robby Steinhart) plays a killer violin. Check out "Bringin' It Back." Generally, Kerry Livgren plays the piano, as well as guitar, and Steve Walsh (singer) plays the organ. The one in the Tux is Rich Williams. He is usually wearing a suit or a tux. Dave Hope is the Bass player. And Phil Ehart is the drummer. This is my #1 favorite band.

The "beard king" is the backup singer/violin player. You can see/hear him playing the violin on their song "Dust in the Wind" which I highly recommend. And the guy who was playing the keyboard while the guy was singing was the lead guitarist - you can see his guitar when they show him playing the keyboard.

Steve Walsh is the singer/keyboardist. He used to do handstands on the keyboards while he was playing them. Rest of the band is Phil Ehart on drums, Dave Hope on bass, Rich Williams (guy in the tux) on lead guitar, Kerry Livgren on guitar and keyboards, and Robbie Steinhardt on violin (although in this video all he does is the co-lead vocals on the chorus).

one of the best shows I've ever seen was Kansas/Styx in the nineties. I worked for the outdoor venue so me and my friends were in the front row for the opener Kansas and the original lineup of Styx doing "The Grand Illusion" album in it's entirety. I'll never forget how good it was.

The 60s and 70s gave us Bill Withers, Sky and the Family Stone, Barry McGuire, The Rolling Stones, Kansas, Hall and Oats, Santana. We didn't have a "cultural" preference. My mothers' generation way of sperating colours became outdated. It was a struggle, but one I'm proud to have been alive for.
