I don't think anyone has done a better job , 'explaining' remote northern Australia as Les did in this series. His respect and love for the indigenous Australians of Arnhem Land shines through, and is so obvious yet so understated...at that time, I felt that Les Hiddens did much to increase the understanding of city folk like me for Aboriginal people and their land. I get the same feeling watching this series now as I did over 30 years ago.

The ducks nuts of Australian television. Me and my mates grew up wanting and trying to be Les Hiddens or Malcolm Douglas. That was when we weren’t trying to be Alan Border or David Boon. If you weren’t into it then you weren’t living. It helped living in the North West of Australia because we could test our new learnt skills for real.
