What made the Zero series so legendary to me is that it was perfect send-off and end to these two legendary heroes' character arcs. X reached much of his infinite potential within the years he lived, having matured and become wise to guide Zero back toward the end of his own journey, and having saved the world from the Dark Elf, not to mention created peace between humans and reploids for 100 years. In his final hours, he helped remind Zero who he was and what made him Zero so that he could make the difficult choice of destroying his original body. Zero wondered who he was and what he was fighting for. He had seen so many tragedies unfold because of his existence, wondering if he was simply built as a machine for destruction, a virus, or something else. What was the point in fighting if he couldn't tell who was maverick or not? X helped him remember that his choices are what made him Zero. Labels didn't matter. Even his body didn't matter. "The heart is what counts, not the body." "I was not built to destroy. I was built to protect those I believe in!" Sending off Zero with answers to his most existential questions in a blaze of glory... Is absolutely beautiful. "If an enemy appears, I will destroy it!" With this great writing, it's no wonder these two made such an impact on me growing up. They are the definition of cool.

The theory of Weil being Wily's final incarnation also makes those final lines from Zero hit especially hard. I don't care that Keiji Inafune said that theory was false. Inafune slapped the character and the fans in the face with that statement. This is a case where we can separate the art from the artist, especially since he's no longer involved with the franchise.

that's not true there is no split in the timeline well there is (battle network) but that's it the x series has no split because capcom made x6 they rewrote the megaman zero story so that any x games could come out still but don't worry x just doesn't have the strength to stay as a cyber elf he has to go to cyberspace to rest a little and he does come back as biomatel X

The split is true, but is after Mega Man X6, in this way X1-->X6 (bad ending, you don't unlock Zero) --> Elf Wars --> Zero series --> ZX series X1-->X6 (good ending, Zero is unlocked) --> X7-->Command Mission --> Legends series.

TheRockyou78 but that makes no sense to have a split the zero series story was already changed so that the gap between x and Zero was more vague so that More X Games could happen and biometal A is supposed to be axl inti creates wanted biomatel A to be axl but they didn't know if he'd live though x9 and during zero but now since keiji inafune is gone and they have pretty much complete control of the Mega Man series I'm pretty sure they're going to write it so that he lived in that Albert was lying .also about legends that really makes no sense because if you listen to Albert's plan it seems like it's foreshadowing Legends he wants to destroy the old world and make something stronger than reploids and humans the evolution of the human and reploids and I don't think I need to explain how that matches up with Legends it just makes no sense to have a split when it's a solid story

He does find out, which is actually kind of nice. As he says in 4, "I don't care about justice, and I don't consider myself a "hero". I fight for the people I believe in. If their enemy appears before me, I will simply destroy it". So where X was motivated by the big picture, trying to fight for everlasting peace and Dr Light's dream of a world of humans and Reploids, Zero seems to be much more of a little picture guy!

You know...I can understand exactly what you mean. Even listening to this soundtrack it's so sad to think that this far into the timeline X is finally saying goodbye once and for all. Really makes you think. Also, there's an incredible role reversal. Remember in the first Megaman X when Zero used to teach X and watcch over him like a superior, yet now in the final goodbye the mission/call of duty is being told to Zero, by X. This series is so in depth and dynamic it's incredible. ZX just lacked.

The first time I saw this, I broke down. X was my favorite character in the X series(along with zero), just because of how much more wise and mature he had grown, comforting zero along the path as zero had began to question his life, from Zero leaving the world in X’s care in X1, to X leaving the world in Zero’s care in Z3, with the last words from X and Zero in Z3 and Z4 etched into my heart forever by the sadness, but relief of watching them pass away in peace, to be reunited in cyberspace forever.

I feel like the most impactful part of MMZ series (if not Megaman series as a whole), was X's death. He has fought multiple wars ever since he was awaken by dr. Cain, seen comrades die, othes turn into maverick, and for a century, had to fight all by himself while Zero was asleep. And as his final words, he asks Zero to protect humans and reploids. (is hard to not feel sad tbh, i cried playing MMZ3 on that part )

zéro has the best story in megaman. itstarts builds up and ends. no milking , no filler , no dragging out just a beautifully told story that starts with the rebirth of a hero who doesn't care about Justice or his lost memories, all he cares about is that there is this girl with a dream an he believes in her and ends with one of the most epic and tragic scenes in megaman history....

Oguzhan Gungor The best line that Zero delivered was against Weil. Stating that he doesn't care if he's a hero or a maverick and only protects the ones X believes in. Also Zero makes Shadow have a run for his money in the "amnesia" department.

Megaman Zero 3 has to be my favorite game in the whole series, in all GBA games, and even as far as favorite game above all. The game was excuted well, great story line, and best of all the amazing music. This is one of the most saddest and nostalgic songs I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. The Megaman games are far underrated in my opinion and more people should play the game. The art is great and so is the song so thank you for putting this up.

He wasn't some weird italian plumber, he wasn't some silent protagonist, he was very vocal about you needing to shape up, he felt like a REAL character, he was humble, despite being clearly superior to you. he was a complete badass who spent all his time either saving your ass or sacrificing himself to save you, he was the first video game character to make me actually shed a tear at their death. @FlameG102: By your definition, X being ejected from his body doesn't constitute dying. I think we have differing ideas on what dying means for a Reploid - to me, it means that the Reploid's soul leaves the physical world for cyberspace. It doesn't matter to me whether their programs are left intact or dissolve after that. So X sort of hung in between life and death until this point in Z3, which was when he truly died.

@linkkenni And Giro? he is indeed a coincidence. He has nothing to do with Zero aside from appearance and name. (and mind you, his name is Girouette) He is supposed to look like Zero because he is the Zero expy. he uses Model Z, and even dies for the player in true Zero sacrifice fashion. Even Vent and aile share characteristic "Mega Man" traits of green eyes and brown hair. (and blue outfits) and even Vent grows his hair out like Giro's in ZXA. Vent also happens to look like Trigger.

@FlameG102 I believe he really did passed away, as when he ran out of energy he couldn't maintain his program still active, so it vanished, just like any other machine cease functionating when there is no more energy source. It happened in a similar way to Sigma on the moon, as he probably didn't have enough energy to come all the way back to Earth. And I think the biometals were just copies or remakes of their conciences, as they didn't even remember the past.

@FlameG102 Its kind of like saying that a person has lost the ability to interact with the world but their memory is still there. The concept of Cyber Elves and their realm, the Cyberwolrd, is kind of like an afterlife. They just happen to be able to interact with the real world. Who is to say that the human soul can also lose the ability to interact with the real world. As far as Model X, it's just a copy, an emulation of the real X. I don't believe it's the real thing.
