I'm so glad I'm not the only one who paints upside-down. It's such a great way to see values and shapes.

Im surprised when you mentioned that you were nervous to paint the dark areas on her face, I've always admired how you paint portraits and how you nail the lighting and shading 🥰 you did absolutely great job with each portrait! And I love your watercolor process, how you lift and layer whatever needs to be fixed. Thank you for all the tips 😊

Ah thank you so much! 😍 That’s a great suggestion! The only reason why I feel as though I couldn’t is because I’m an art ambassador for Royal Talens (Who make Rembrandt watercolors & gift me the paints). But I do love the idea of comparing the different sets. Thank you for your support Ninja~ 🩵✨

I'm curious as to what makes this a "portrait palette" as opposed to just a basic split primary palette. When you get a botanical palette, you will generally have more pre-mixed pinks, purples, and greens and then a few other colors so you can change the temperature of those colors to more cool/more warm based on whatever you're trying to accomplish. For a portrait palette, I would expect an array of ochres, siennas, umbers, etc., plus a cool red and warm red, a maybe neutral blue, and a viridian. All of these can be single pigment so people don't panic over "muddy colors" (though human skintones, being variations of brown, are in fact muddy). You'd still have to mix/glaze, and it would be 100% easier and more intuitive for beginners and advanced artists alike. I like Rembrandt as a brand, but I am unsure as to why this split primary is portrait. As always, your art is lovely and full of life! Thank you for taking the time.

Thank you so much for your comment! I totally understand where you’re coming from. This set is really quite similar to their standard 12 set in that regard! I’ve seen a portrait watercolor set by Winsor&Newton that has browns, yellows and reds with a single blue- which was honestly more what I was expecting for this set! I guess it’s just preference for if you like to mix your own colors or enjoy the convenience of pre-mix. Do you have a botanical palette you prefer? I’ve been looking to try one!
