Parabens pela clareza com que descreve uma obra de arte com riqueza de detalhes e delicadeza das linhas onde ele foca sua característica com palavras de fácil compreensão. Parabéns.

The historian Simon Schama suggested that Dr. Tulp's gaze, which was not, disappointingly, covered in this video, was directed towards not just outside of the room, but rather further, towards God himself. Dr. Tulp was a devout Calvinist, and through this dissection and the facial expression he formed, two interpretation may be drawn. Either he was contemplating God's work: "even the smallest, God lies hid" (Caspar Barleus). Or that he was uneasy by the fact that he had exposed the workings of the Creator. However, this is just two interpretation of Dr. Tulp's gaze, others, considering context, may be drawn.

Simon Schama is a great story teller, great to listen to, but he is not a thought reader of people in the past. My version is that he is looking at the spectators assisting his public lesson while he is showing with his hand the movement made when the tendons are pulled.

The tendons are unfortunately not anatomically correct. He has mixed up the flexors and the extensors. Nonetheless a beautiful painting (my favourite)
