For a younger boy, this would be great fun. My guess is that it quit working so was shelved until you received it and fixed it.

Yes, or not at all even. One of the things I did not mention was the size of the box. This could have been packaged in a much smaller box, so it is really odd. I wish the car was of better quality....it reminds me a bit of my Tico race car sets....just wanting to break in your hands. I can imagine many not lasting with kids.

Im sure remco took some inspiration from the 1960 Plymouth XNR for that front end

You know, I was thinking about that while getting down and trying to get some close up shots of the car in motion. Excellent observation on your part!

So what did that gear in the back actually do? I didn't see the propeller moving ,but it did look like the ziptie you installed was hampering its movement

I wish I could Niel. Mr. Becker passed away a few years ago. He did tell me he really liked my video and "made an old guy feel great" as he said. He really was a great guy. In all the years I have been doing this (had a website since the 1990s) I have never had anyone in contact with me that was actually in the toy business as an inventor, owner, or anything else. He was the exception. A really, genuinely great guy.

After 50 years that plastic gets brittle.

Yes it does. The absolute worst was Transogram's building sets, "Construct All". Very interesting concept, but the plastic on some of the sets I have just disintegrates when you touch them. I don't know if they had some initial bad batches, as I have a few sets that don't suffer from this, but most of them I have received in the mail and 1/2 the pieces are shattered junk.
