I love the idea that Rose is mimicking what she thinks is normal human behavior, but because it isn't her behavior it doesn't come across as being normal. The Dark Presence brutalized her mind in the first game. Honestly, it is a miracle that she is functional at all.

The subtext of that story always struck me as sad. She has no other life but her author and so is very much trapped in a mental prison of her own. It just has prettier colors than the Dark Place.

Thank you for all that insight into Rose!! Rose is one of my absolute favorite - if not *the* absolute favorite - characters. I think it's interesting to see that Jessica Preddy defines Rose as not infatuated with Alan but as seeing her life mission as being the "vessel through which he speaks". I think I'm not the only one who thought at first that yeah Rose is absolutely"just" a huge fangirl but when I saw her shrine in AW2 I was like "...oh.". I'm a psychiatry resident so I tend to overanalyze things but with Jessica's insights and with what I personally interpret from the character I feel like Rose might be seen as psychotic, or at the very least as having a relation to reality that's heavily skewed. I know that because of everything else happening in the game, even when Alan very firmly tells her he's NOT been sending her any kind of messages there's still a possibility he did, but to me it can be read as Rose being overly interpretative - in a "pathological", clinical sense. Sorry for all the yapping I'm just very passionate about my favorite waitress!!!

Fun fact: She played two strange diner waitresses. One of them is obsessive about her passions, the other one is just racist. She also played the latter in an episode called "Rosa" from Doctor Who. It's hard to say if Rose came out better or worse from the events of the first game. It'd make sense that Alan would try contacting her first (as seen in the Night Springs DLC) and that she wouldn't work out as well as Saga did.
