#melting #casting #devilforge #copper #aluminum #metalcasting
This weeks melt was something else, cameras overheating all the time, aluminum acting weird... Fun day...😒.
And that's why I didn't make the ingot shine like a mirror, to many things not going as planned.
Is it because I left it for to long in the garage?
Do you know?
If you do, please let me know in the comments.
It almost felt like melting zinc, but without the mess of overheating it.
Other then that, got a nice ingot out of it😉.
!!! Thank you all for the support !!!

✨About the TIP JAR: it's hard to make money on KZbin and melting stuff can be pricy..
I'm not eligible for the KZbin partner program and even then, the "payout" is almost nothing.
So a KZbinr made this app, with his own money, to reward smaller KZbinrs (here's the link to that video: • I Monetized a KZbin ... ) So I made an account, so people (if they want !!) can tip me.
Where is the money for? Simple, for the channel! To expand, make more interesting videos, equipment, tools, etc. .. Even a small amount is appreciated! here is the link, check it out and if you think I deserve a tip, you can tip me😉. ⬇️

Excellent melt as always my friend! Thank you VERY MUCH for that shoutout buddy!!!! I’m thinking you did a great job the first time when you melted the cans. I’m willing to bet that smoke could have been the impurities burning up even further than the original melt. Most of my aluminum slag has a lot of dirt and sand mixed in with it. Then again I never melted cans as my state has a recycling program. At any rate, great recovery and you got yourself some more aluminum for the stack. You will reach your goal in no time! 😁🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thanks man! You are very welcome 😁. Well, there was still some big pieces off aluminum left so I thought I would have more aluminum in the end. I did slag melts before and it was never like this😐. I’m this state recycling program😂. Thanks man!😃

I think you just did a good job the first time around of not having much metal in the slag.

The smoke could have been a bit of Zinc boiling off, was there any yellowish powder in the crucible after the smoke stopped? You can usually smash the bigger chunks with a hammer and break them apart, if there isnt to much metal. I keep the chunks with the most metal content and put the small stuff through a strainer to get rid of all the dust and small debris, and pick out any good stuff. Rest goes to fill holes in the driveway lol My typical 2nd run of all the dross usually yields 25-30% on a good day, but every melt is different.

Just a little bit yellow, far less that like, melting brass or zinc. Well, I hammered the crap out that big piece but it didn’t work 😅. And I’m not a wuss😂. Oh I sifted everything, due to overheating phones, I didn’t get that footage😑. Oh that’s not a bad idea! But I don’t have many holes in the driveway😅.

I wonder if the cans were galvanized with zinc. Zinc can create white smoke since it's boiling point is lower. Or maybe I'm thinking of Tin?

Dross and Slag are mostly waste. You did good cleaning out what Aluminum was left. Nice work and you got another bar of aluminum out of it. ☺☺ Good video Bro!! The more you do the better you get. 👍🏻👍🏻💯💯👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥

Could be all the paint in the slag from the cans. Musta settled in the residue the first time maybe and didn't burn completely off. Just a guess

Isn't that alumina? I mean, some elemental aluminum sticks to the dross, so that's how you get that ingot, but the rest is aluminum oxide, and that stuff doesn't melt easily. And even if you reach the thousands of degrees temperatures it needs to melt, you need to electrolyze it then, to drive oxygen away. Or else you'll get a brittle crystalline ingot, that's not aluminum at all.
@SJWCASTING
@SJWCASTING Жыл бұрын
That could be. I don’t think I can reach that high temperature with the devil forge 😅.

no flux? it would increase your yield
@SJWCASTING
@SJWCASTING 11 ай бұрын
No, I don’t use flux when melting aluminum 😅. The yield is small as expected with dross, but I don’t think it would matter much if I used or didn’t used flux?

@SJWCASTING for me it seemed to help. I wonder if the old dross had oxidized that might be why it smoked so .uch.
@SJWCASTING
@SJWCASTING 11 ай бұрын
@@timeload343 I tried it once with salt but it didn’t do much in my opinion. I think it did. Had some buckets a while back and after a couple of months, the dross got white and crumbled..
