John McLaughlin surely know himself well enough to know that he plays at his absolute best when he's got somebody CHASING him, and his ability to maintain that cognitive dissonance was just another amazing thing among the myriad. I LOVE this quartet iteration perhaps best among all JUST FOR THAT - like, peace, love, understanding, brotherhood among men - AS SOON AS THAT GODDAMN LITTLE KID STOPS TRYING TO SLAUGHTER ME WITH THAT GODDAMN LITTLE TOY.... almost hearkens back to the grand old Mahavishnu trench wars! U.Srinivas was definitely NOT trying to take prisoners or lay off the gas pedal - I think they maybe hired S. Mahadevan partially to balance that out!

Nowhere near as good as the original Shakti. While a Handful of Beauty is a masterpiece of the highest order and John is one of my all time favorite guitarists and a great inspiration, in his later years became tone deaf when he plays electric, which sounds god-awful and completely unsuited to Shakti music. El Shankar was sorely missed. For these reasons, Shakti Remembered was lackluster and low energy compared to A Handful of Beauty.
